A WONDERFUL MATCH IN THE MINING FIELD,
By
This review is from: Mail-Order Bride (Mass Market Paperback)
When Kathleen Elizabeth Murphy arrives in Orion, Colorado, she finds that there has been a cave-in at The King Mine. She pitches right in helping the injured and maimed. Here she meets Trev without realizing who he is. Then she is told that her intended was one of the dead men.Trev is suspicious of the cave in but cannot prove any foul play. He is also a single father trying to provide for his children, baby Brynn and 4 year old Annabel Lee. He also has to deal with the unkind people who think the child is touched in the head. I enjoyed his friendship and jealousy of "Laddie", a young seventeen year old miner who was interested in Kate. I will not forget the scene when Kate runs away from the crying Brynn only to be accosted by a drunken miner. But she does go back and try again. Apparently she has had no experience with children. But they do muddle through. The slowly evolving attraction between Trev and Kate is backdropped by the troubles in the silver mines and the troublemaker who are trying to get rid of Trev. Kate eventually runs up against the men plotting Trev's downfall and risks her life to save little Annie and Brynn. I was most happy to find out about their extended family in the second book HIS UNEXPECTED WIFE. Definitely recommended --M - one you will enjoy.

A Keeper,

I just finished reading this book and really enjoyed it. I loved the story of Trev and Kate but what really made this story was the relationship between Trev, Kate and Trev' children Annie & Brynn. Poor little four year old Annie does not talk due to some emotional turmoil she went through with her mother. Kate can relate since she had some of her own with her father. The setting in a mining town with all the pitfalls of being a miner. The accidents and the love that happens make for a truly wonderful story.

Romance, History, and A Spunky Lady,
By
This review is from: Mail-Order Bride (Mass Market Paperback)
I am proud to say that I know this talented author. Maureen has done it again with this story.Kate arrives in the Rockies as a mail order bride. What she does not know is that her groom has been killed in a mine cave in and now has no way of supporting herself. Trev is the mine superintendent and he needs someone to take care of his two children. Kate needs a job so a deal is made. What they don't count on is the feelings that they both start to feel for each other. This is a great story that will make you laugh and cry and is able to do it without being silly. MM books are a great way to visit the wild wild west!

Not as hot as others have stated...,

I read this book recently, and I'll be honest: it took me a lot to get through it. The writing is well-done, of course, but I felt the heroine was a tad on the weaker end of "fiery", and the romance was lukewarm at best. There were other, smaller aspects that got me frustrated as well, but a weak heroine and a shoddy intimate relationship between the lead characters really douses my fire.
I'm in the middle of my second Maureen McKade novel, "A Reason to Believe", and so far it's a much, much sounder tome.

THIS IS A KEEPER!,

This talented author has done it again! This simply wonderfully poignant and tender story keeps you interested from the first page to the last! Having come from a high mountain mining town, I know she did her research to bring us this realistic tale of mining boomtowns and the mindset of miners. The romantic details immediately endear the characters to your heart.
This is the prequel to HIS UNEXPECTED WIFE and although HIS UNEXPECTED WIFE is pleasant read, it doesn't live up to MAIL ORDER BRIDE. A+ all the way!

The title does this story an injustice.,

Maureen McKade has written a wonderfully human story about a man and a woman each trying to find their way thru past hurts and into a new future. The characters are wonderful and you will love all of them. The hunky Trev; sweet little annie, baby brynn and of course Kate, who saves them all one way or another. The title sounds like a 100 page harlequin western and trust me it's not. True Kate got to Orion by accepting a mail order proposal, done a lot back then, but once there the story is all about finding your hearts dream. I almost didn't get this one because of the title but I am glad I did. It was so enjoyable. MM is fast becoming an author on my "watch" list.

Five stars just aren't enough!!!,

This book deserves more than five stars!!! It is a sweet and enchanting love story that will keep you glued to the pages until you've read the last word.Kate Murphy goes to Orion to become a mail-order bride. The day she arrives there is a cave-in at the mine and her intended is killed. She is left all alone in a strange town with little money. She is then taken in by Mrs. Hartwick, an old widow. Kate wants to get a job to earn enough money to move away from the mining town. She gets a job working for Trev Trevelyan, the mine superintendent, babysitting his two children. His daughter won't speak due to prior events but takes to Kate immediately. This story is just so romantic. The love between Trev and Kate grows slowly and that makes it believeable. There isn't the normal man and woman hate each other element that so many romance books have. Kate and Trev are both attracted to each other but due to past experiences and current circumstances they don't want to lay their hearts on the line. I just can't say enough about this book. It is an excellent read for a day outside in the sun or a rainy day inside. No matter the weather outside this book will warm your heart and soul.

What a great book!!! I read thru this book in 2 days. You will fall inlove with Trev Trevelyan as soon as you set eyes on him!!! The romance with Kate and Trev takes place slowly, so it is realistic. Her love for the Trevelyans and the hysterical mishaps with the children are endearing. I highly recommend you read this book. Or any book by Maureen McKade for that matter.

Maureen does it again!,
This review is from: Mail-Order Bride (Mass Market Paperback)
Maureen McKade does it again with a terrific story! Trev & Kate are wonderful characters. Well written and fast moving. Tears, laughs and heart stopping moments abound, as usual. I feel honored to re-read the history of the old west with a little feminism thrown in for good measure. Kate is an amazing person with many decisions to make. Much like real life. Thank you Maureen for making women a part of the old west and hero's in their own right.
