4.0 out of 5 stars It's just OK, May 3, 2004

This review is from: Mail-Order Temptress (Heartfire Romance) (Paperback)
I would really prefer to give this 3.5 stars, but since I can't I'll err on the side of giving it a bit more than really justified. I liked the plot of this book, that all the bachelors in one town would pay to bring a group of women to town, not contracted to marry them but just encouraged to court and hope for the best. I appreciated the lack of pressure on the women. The book falls short of a great review because Kirsten is much too quick to find fault in Eric, when he is really a nice, patient man who wants to give her time to make sure she can handle this new life of hard farm work. She too easily believes rumors from others over the truth from this decent man, and he deserved much better. The ending wraps up a bit too easily for her, when I think he should have made her work harder to earn back his respect.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Liked It Very Much, December 3, 2011

I'm glad I read this for myself and gave this book/author a chance. I'm not sure what the other reviewer read but it wasn't the same book I did that is for sure. I agreed with nothing they wrote.

It was a done deal from the get go there was no courting involved the men each paid to bring 14 women to town to marry to assist them in there lonely farm lives. By the time the women arrived they were already matched up to their male counterparts since they each were corresponding via mail having all had proposals prior to their arrival to town. There was no pressure because the women wanted to be married as did the men and they were almost immediately group married a week after arrival.

As for the book falling short because Kirsten was much too quick to find fault in Eric, I was actually mad that she didn't rip him a new one, he was a total pig to her embarassing, humiliating and lieing to her throughout the entire book.
He was a drama queen and could have avoided many of their issues.

As for believing rumors from others, the "others" was a manipulative biotch that made sure that her proof was just about undeniable, He deserved a kick in the pants for his shameful behavior to her not the other way around IMHO.

As for the ending, I honestly thought that she should have been fuious that he was a deceptive, manipulative liar. All his heartache was because he wasn't man enough to face her and straighten out their issues instead he went to everyone and his brother for advice. She was manipulated till the bitter end and is the one that gave in to quickly.

Having said all of this I liked the book very much I laughed, cried and was mad as H E double hocky sticks at times and I liked the plot. I like mail order books and have read many and this one rates right up there with them. I had to buy this used since it wasn't offered on Kindle and it was worth the $4 I paid. I'm off to find more of this authors books to read. Happy Reading, Enjoy.
