5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect little product
This seems to be a good example of a product that is simple, well designed, and just works. For the size, it's quite loud (has two volume levels). It has a button on the top that you press to "reset" it after it has been activated when the mail comes. The sensor is small and unobtrusive. It just works.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality - item discontinued
First one we bought was faulty - kept getting false alarms. Got a replacement and it worked OK for a while. Then it broke. When I contacted the manufacturer, I was told this item was no longer being made. After pushing them, they finally refunded me. The idea is neat. But it just doesn't last.

It took less than five minutes to set mine up. It plays a soft classical tune for a few seconds. You have a switch on the side for lo volume or hi volume. The lo volume could be heard throughout the house.

Could clearly hear it in my back yard when the volume is set on Hi.
It has a reset button on top that you press to turn off the light. The unit has a flashing light to let you know when the batteries which are included are low. Was also impressed with the prompt shipment from Gitway.

Bob :-)

I like this little gadget. It is very nice to know if the mail has come yet to save a trip down to the road. It is especially good for those days when I'm waiting for something that needs to be signed for - I am able to race down and catch the mailcarrier before she leaves the "no one at home - come to the PO to pick up your package" slip.

Also, I like the fact that the alarm is loud enough to hear all over the house, but if you had a young child down for a nap you might want to cover it to mute the sound a bit.

Recommend.

Length:: 2:18 Mins

I wanted to make a video so you could hear the alert and see what it does. I think that's important and helpful.

I was able to get a notification from 45 feet through two walls and I probably could have gone much further but I didn't try. I have no need for it to go any further. Other people have already stated that it goes 150-200 feet. I believe them.

It appears to be a durable product and also does not interfere with my wireless doorbell system. I use other wireless devices in the house and I tested all of them and none of them set off the Mail-Minder.

I suppose if I had to find something to complain about, I'd have to say that the volume control could be better. "Low" isn't exactly low enough in my opinion.

It's just one of those products that's very simplistic. There's not much else to say. The instructions were very easy to read and you could tell they were written by someone who speaks the English language. It took me approximately 5 minutes to set it up. It came with all the batteries. I didn't use the double-sided tape provided at first because I wanted to be sure the transmitter was in the right position. So, temporarily, I held it up with scotch tape and once I knew it was in the right position, I used the double-sided tape to finalize it.

Hope this helps you with your purchase. If you have a question, leave it as a follow up comment. I will answer you.

-Justin

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, August 15, 2009

I bought this gizmo after finding pieces of our mail down the street in our suburban neighborhood. I have had it for 4 or 5 months in 104 degree Texas weather and it still works great. I have caught two people going through our mailbox and have been able to keep the kids across the street from playing on the mailbox, thus keeping them from damaging the mailbox. I have also gotten to know the mailman, because I see him almost every time he comes. I think being familiar with our mailman has caused less mistakes to be made. We used to get other peoples mail delivered to us about once a week and since the mailminder, it hasn't happened once.

Cons: I have had to super strong glue to get the sensor to stick to the mailbox. I think the heat in texas melts the adhesive strip, but that is no big deal.

This is one of those products that I didn't know I needed. My daughter sent it to me, and my husband and I love it. It is simple, works well and makes life easier!

I knew it probably wouldn't work for me since the stated range is 150 feet and my mailbox is 350 feet from the house, but I love gadgets and couldn't resist ordering it. When I tried it, the range was about 250 feet. I removed the cover on the transmitter and found a 2 1/2" wire used as the antenna. I soldered a 14" extension to it and tried again. It signalled easily from the mailbox! I walked past the mailbox to about 800 feet from the house and it still worked! Here's how I mounted it. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the transmitter box for the wire extension and sealed it with silicone calk to exclude moisture. Then I mounted the transmitter with 3M double stick tape near the bottom of the mailbox door and led the new antenna wire up in an arc following the shape of the door, secured with hot melt glue. Be sure to mount it where it won't be pinched in the door. My mailbox is plastic; a metal box may block the signal. I recommend this product. Once you have it you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

I agree with the other positive reviews. To put it on the mailbox door I reinforced it by strapping metal tape with holes in it to the mail box door. I get to see the mail man when he comes. We used to leave the box door open as a signal the mail hadn't arrived, this is much, much better.
