5.0 out of 5 stars Large Pro, Goes Full Out On This Jam, October 5, 2008
This review is from: Main Source (Audio CD)
Thank God for small wonders. After Large Professors mediocre last Full legnth, 1ST CLASS, you'd wonder if the man behind MAIN SOURCE could handle his biz again. Well after many a beat/mix/mash of samples and loops, Extra P set a course for A++ material and great guest work on his new album so righteously titled, "MAIN SOURCE". This album has it all, great beats, great lyrics, good overall tone, and the usual cadence the is Large Professor.

5.0 out of 5 stars What You Need Is The Source, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Main Source (Audio CD)
Large Professor has never been the most lyrical dude out, but hes still able to make dope music. From Breaking Atoms to now i have always heard people say they cant stand his rapping. Well if you are one of the people that like it this is perfect for you. Large Pro fans already know what to expect simple and fun rhyming that is enjoyable and ill beats that well blow your eardrums. This is probably my favorite produced albums of the year, all the beats knock they are very catchy and good for the summer. Marco Polo the Canadian hip hop producer also come though and produces one joint called Hardcore Hip Hop. Other then that im sure the rest are dope by Pro himself. Jeru The Damaja, Big Noyd and Lil Dap all come out and get their own track to rap on which i thought was strange but its all good. I have not heard Lil Dap and Jeru rap since the days when they were with DJ Premier so it was interesting to hear. The only compliant for this album i could think of is you dont like Large Pros lyrics, well i do so this album is in the running for top albums of 2008. Get it

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 star 3rd album from Large Pro, February 24, 2010

It's been 6 years since his last album, and the wait was well worth it, as L.P. drops a very good 4.5 star album here, and better than his "1st Class" (which I'd give 4 stars). I was very leased with this and got more then i expected, though I haven't heard his other 2 albums... they will be added to my collection in the near future. This one has 17 songs (4 of which Large Pro is not on). Of the 17, 2 are classics, 1 is a near-classic, 9 are good, 4 are ok, and 1 I skip over. Guests are on 7 of the songs, so like most of his work, you don't get a heavy dose of him on the m-i-c, but again he handles the majority of the production (all but 1 song, which Marco Polo does), and he does a GREAT job, as he always does. A must have album from a NY veteran producer/rapper.

#1 - 9 (nice beat)
#2 - 9.5 (great beat)
#3 - 10 (CLASSIC -- f/ Killah Shah & Guardian Leep -- great beat)
#4 - 7.5 (f/ Mikey D & Lotto -- upbeat track)
#5 - 9 (nice beat)
#6 - 8.5 (laid back beat with LP spittin' a quiet/relaxed flow)
#7 - 7.5
#8 - 8.5 (another laid back beat)
#9 - 8.5 (another relaxing beat)
#10 - 8.5 (Jeru the Damaja -- no Large Pro)
#11 - 8 (Lil Dap -- no Large Pro)
#12 - 8.5 (Big Noyd -- no Large Pro)
#13 - 8.5 (tight beat that he also used on U-God's "Dopim")
#14 - 7.5
#15 - 5.5 (tight beat but one of those teenage-radio type rhymes)
#16 - 6.5
#17 - 10 (CLASSIC -- AZ & Styles -- no Large Pro -- great beat and also on AZ's "Undeniable" & Styles' "Ghost Sessions")

4.0 out of 5 stars Main source 2008, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Main Source (Audio CD)
Extra P returns in 2008 with yet another nice album. Solid beats to bang in the car as well as decent lyrics. Extra P has never been a perfect lyricist to me but, his delivery and his voice while rhyming definitely enhance and make him sound better than his past years. All in all this album is very consistent with the career of Large Pro. I haven't been disappointed with the past and I am looking forward to the future releases of LP.
