Candace Clifford, a lighthouse historian, collaborates with Mary Louise Clifford to present execerpts from the lighthouse collection in the National Archives that describe how lighthouse sites were selected, constructions of various towers and auxiliarh buildings, the appointment of keepers, weather-related damage to the stations, repairs and reconstruction done as the years advanced, logbooks of the daily lives of keepers, and much more. Black-and-white photographs illustrate this definitive historical resource for lighthouse fans; Maine Lighthouses: Documentation Of Their Past is the next best thing to combing primary sources firsthand.

Bought as a gift for a devout lighthouse lover and she loves it. The book was in great shape and the delivery service was spot-on. The book is often mentioned in conversations and is on the coffee table, not the shelf.
