A bit technical but a great resource for understanding plant life and nutrient requirements. This information is totally different than most of your standard gardening methods. A must read for someone serious about high quality food.

I find this book very interesting since it gives us the view of people when chemical farming was just starting and the warnings at that time and how things have turned out. It gives a lot of practical advice on balancing the soil so we might produce healthy plants and livestock also.

Having read Beddoe's Nourishment Homegrown (a new edition is available on his website) and the Ideal Soil by Astera and Agricola (on their soilminerals site) I can say that these two are way more useful than this one. While the author without doubt knows about his field he is not very specific even when he (rarely) goes into recipes there are omissions regarding one or the other part, so the whole book leaves one with the impression that the author knows all but the reader is not on his mind too much, whether intentionally or not.You still may be able to pick up a few useful bits of information but the intensity can't be compared to the two books mentioned above, which in my opinion should be read both. |
