Our family regularly plays family games, and this set is one of the nicest games we own. It's well made and very large at 18.25" by 22.5" inches when fully opened. The case closes up nicely and has a stainless steel clasp.

This game was a pleasure to play and my daughter especially enjoys learning new strategies to beat me at this game. Although the game box indicates that this game is for ages fourteen and up, my eight year old has no trouble at all playing this game. In fact, I think it's preferable to challenge young minds to learn problem solving strategies rather than wait until they are older.

I would recommend this game if you plan to use it often and are looking for a board and pieces that will stand the test of time. If I was in the market for a new chess and checkers set, Main Street Games would probably be my first choice after having played their backgammon game.

If you check the comments section I'll include a couple of places to find tutorials on how to play backgammon. The included instructions were quite good, but the orange print was not something I would expect to come with a game of this quality.

Backgammon is an ancient game that has been with us for hundreds of years. This Backgammon set is 18 inch square - it is big. Looks nice, mostly leatherette material on the outside, and suede inside. It has a metal lock snap for closing. The round tiles are great, they look solid, heavy, and they don't look cheap. Dice cups are also made of leatherette material with felt fabric lining inside. A pair of white dice, a pair of black dice, and with 1 doubling die. It is actually don't look bad to display it on your coffee table.

It would be more convenient if it has a handle for carrying along. It is big, and a handle will really be useful. I like an extra tile for each color in case you lose a piece, but this set does not include any. The inner suede looks great and feels nice to touch, but that can be a problem after months of playing as the suede material loves to accumulate dirt and grime. Construction does not look very impressive to me, the center part where it hinges is also lined with black leatherette that may not stand long with repeated closing and opening. Another gripe is the lack of a decent beginner's manual. What it has is almost useless as the quality of the print is very inferior and the illustration is hardly readable. This is great for a casual player, but a seasoned backgammon player might look somewhere else.

Seeing that these sets can run you into the thousands, we were looking for a nice set to play. This product fits the bill. Nicely made, the 18" is a good size. I would recommend this set to anyone that is looking for a very reasonably priced backgammon set.

The nicest part of this Main Street Classic Backgammon Set is the white topstitching on the black leatherette case which gives it a high quality look. Unfortunately, the set I received has a couple of creases in the fabric interior lining which continually attract my eyes and I always want to play the side without the creases. Because I'm a good sport, I always ask that my opponent select sides and I therefore always wind up with the creases to call my own. The set is not heavy and I appreciate the absence of a weighty and cumbersome handle, but if a handle is important to you for carrying, then this is not the set for you. The "stones" or round pieces have a nice weight to them and I also like the look and feel of all five dice. The cups are just fine in appearance and heft as long as you don't look at the workmanship closely, especially on the bottom where I fear the glue will not be effective for too long. The "manual" is extremely difficult to read because the imprint is faint and some of the words/diagrams are not legible, but as a plus, it does include a paragraph on the history of the game. With a better manual, I think I would have been more impressed with this set, but the included sheet of paper gives a very cheap and careless impression of the manufacturer. One can find resources for the game rules online or in game books and these are easier to read, so I'd suggest that if Main Street is not interested in providing worthwhile instructions, they'd be better off leaving this weak attempt out of the set.

All in all, the workmanship in stitching is excellent but the glue is lacking in the construction of the game I received. I enjoy playing the game, like the look of it, appreciate that it's far superior to the heavy pleather set I had many years ago, but I'm not excited about the retail cost.

I love backgammon this is great to take with you , when you are on the go.Or if you are at home. The sleek design will also be a center piece on top of a end table or coffee table. The stitching is nice and the felt die does not come on your hand like some I have played. Overall a great product will make a great gift

This is clearly meant for those who want an elegant item for a formal room or den. The case is large and it really says quality in every way - from the leather inside and out to the quality pieces inside. This is a step above wood sets and clearly much better than the typical plastic sets one finds these days.

This is perfect as a classy gift or for a display/playable item for when guests visit. Bring out the wine and enjoy a game with this beautiful set.

I had check all over the place looking for a quality Backgammon set and could not find anything that was not either junk, or outrageously priced. This is a very high quality set that is very fairly priced. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

I got this set because it matches my game room and didn't break the bank. It has a classy look except for the dice which are cheap looking. As stated, there is no handle but I wanted something sleek that stores easily. The case is very thin and it stores well.

It took me a long time to find a backgammon game for one of my nieces. Surprisingly, you cannot find them in the local stores, unless you want a cardboard box game. The quality of this set is awesome. The colors, the stitching, the feel of the dice and player's pieces are excellent. The only thing that would be better is if it had a handle.

Was worried because it was a going to be a gift. Impressed by the quality. Nice weight to it. Would purchase again.
