This set is great!

We have enjoyed countless games of chess and checkers with this set - my 3 kids are 7 and under and play with it all the time (my 6 year old is so good at both chess and checkers at this point from playing so many games that now he seriously beats me!). So I see that one reviewer complained about the laminated "wood" - well, I have to say that for the price, you couldn't find a better wooden set and it's the perfect size - not at all too small for adult hands but a good scale for kids and easy enough to take from room to room and even on a trip.

We've had our first set for so long a couple of the pieces are missing so I'm buying another set so we have all of the pieces - tournament anyone?

When I saw that the set was originally $89.99, I thought I was getting a big bargain. But it wasn't. The item is clearly made by people who have no idea of the game of chess or backgammon. The backgammon pieces are made of cheap plastic and are so small you can't even pick them up. There's a strip of cheap fabric sloppily glued on the inside of the box that was already hanging loose when I first opened the box. The chess board is not actually part of the box. It's a square piece of cheap laminate that was glued on to the box by what seemed like blind people because of the large amount of glue that was still stuck to the box. The box itself, though made of wood, is cheaply assembled and the two horribly hewn holes that act as handles were never sanded so when you stick your hand inside, you risk losing some of your skin. I, for one, am fond of my skin. Other than that the thing was a joy for the fifteen minutes I owned it before I decided to return it. I just forgot. Even if I wanted to play one of the games, I couldn't as one of the pieces was missing.

This product came in very good condition and will be used by my son and grandchildren.
