4.0 out of 5 stars A well written book. I gave it a 4 stars
With many books on the market that focus on the Comptia 220-601 Essentials, 220-602, 220-603, 220-604, this book is the one to go for. I am currently using this book for the exam. I am taking this the Essentials 220-601 July. Followed by one of the others. But back to the book, this book is well written, mainly focusing on the Comptia Objectives. I have read other books...

4.0 out of 5 stars A well written book. I gave it a 4 stars, March 17, 2007
This review is from: Maintaining & Repairing PCs (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
With many books on the market that focus on the Comptia 220-601 Essentials, 220-602, 220-603, 220-604, this book is the one to go for. I am currently using this book for the exam. I am taking this the Essentials 220-601 July. Followed by one of the others. But back to the book, this book is well written, mainly focusing on the Comptia Objectives. I have read other books like the Mike Myers All-in-on 5th edition, Fast Pass A+, Exam Crams, A+ guide to PC Hardware & Repair, but none of them can compete with this book. Just as the Mike Myers books, this is for beginners. This is very easy to understand, also has Colored Pictures, real world scenario's( Geek squad questions, so you know this book is what you need to pass the a+ exams. Since geek squad is a official company, they have combined with Marcraft to actually provide real scenarios, and tips that GEEK SQUAD Agents would like you to know and are useful!!! The chapters are longer since the exams cover both software and hardware. As you get towards the end of the book, thankfully the authors have made a specific page for the Essentials Exam 601(602,603,604). This page is the A+ objective Map. This focuses right on with the Comptia A+ Essentials domains, it even tells you the chapters that they were found on. With other books, you would probably have to search all around the book just to know what is on the Domains. For example in Domain 1 of Comptia Essentials says

"Identify the names, purposes, and characteristics of storage devices."

FDD
HDD
CD etc

This books refers to the chapter where these are found. At the end of each chapter their is a review(KEY Points) that takes out all of the information from the chapter into a simple easy to read format that can be used to answer the questions at the end of the chapter, without going back in the chapter to pick out one single answer. They have various hands on activities that are very helpful but specific to the A+ Essentials.

But making a long story short, this book is not heavy at all, compared to the Mike Myers Books. Starting from Chapter 1(page one) to the last chapter 13(822) is everything including the questions is all you need to read. With the Mike Myers book, their is over 1000+ pages. Why read 1000+ pages??? Well thats my opinion everyone has different ideas, and concepts. I have yet to open and try the CD that has various questions. Easy to understand, hands on activity, clear explanations, real scenarios, great color pictures. But the disadvantage of the book is the price. But, this is a excellent study guide. You can use this as a single source to pass the A+. But others may say you need another source just to make sure you haven't missed any important information. Like Ive said, I have yet to taken the Exam, but I am going to the Exam within the next 4 months(July 2007). I Will update you all. Thanks for reading my review of the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated and Fun, September 23, 2007
This review is from: Maintaining & Repairing PCs (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
I teach PC Repair and Maintenance at the college level. It's the best book I've seen on this subject. It has up-to-date material, is fun to read, has case studies from GeekSquad, covers the 2006 A+ exam, is beautifully illustrated, and has all of the teacher extras available that we need. I love how the book is so interactive and engaging, even though it is just a book.

I highly recommend this book, both to students and teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maintaining & Repairing PCs, May 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maintaining & Repairing PCs (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
Hi,
When I got my book, "Maintaining & Repairing PCs", I was very happy with getting everything I had ordered, and in the condition that was advertised. Keep up the good work.
Out of all of the text books I have ever used in a classroom, this is hands down, the best illustrated text book I have ever seen. When I thumbed through the book I knew that it was going be something that I was going to be pleased with.
At the school I'm attending, we're using this book for A+ hardware and A+ software. So, as far as I'm concerned, it has everything you'll need to get the job done, hands down. It is a g-r-e-a-t book! My compliments to the author, Mr. Brooks. And if he would come out with a well illustrated book on Networking +, I would buy it as well. Thank you very much.
