Maisy watches as Charley plays with the dentist's chair, opens his crocodilian mouth wide for Dr. Biteright, and hears the good news that his wobbly baby tooth will fall out and a new one will replace it. After an X-ray and a toothbrushing lesson, Charley waves good-bye. The story ends happily, and predictably, with a visit from the tooth fairy. Cousins' distinctive artwork, with its broad black lines and bold, flat colors, gives Maisy's fans reason enough to choose this brightly illustrated story. Leavened with a little visual humor and bolstered by a bit of information about tooth care, the book provides basic information about what happens at the dentist's office while offering reassurance to kids who are anxious about the experience. My children have grown up with the Maisy books but are now beyond the board books and lift the flap books. This range of books is the next progression on from those so I am delighted my children can still keep in touch with their favourite characters in a more in depth story.

This book is really superb. The Maisy illustrations are more detailed than ever and the story is expertly told. There is text on most pages and it tells the story of Charlie going to the dentist because he has a wobbly tooth. The best bits of the old Maisy books are still here, all the friends, the clear progression of the story and the sound effects children love adults reading.

This story is also very educational as it introduces all the things you might encounter at a dentists appointment like the waiting room, the special type of dentists chair, x rays, the mouth wash sink and the sticker you get at the end of the examination as well as how to brush your teeth.

Highly recommended for 3-6 year olds before a visit to the dentist.

Great book. Explains what goes on in the dental environment. We loved the bit about the chair that goes up & down!
