Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS In the first story, Maisy tries to come up with a unique dress-up idea for Tallulah's costume party. All of her friends have already arrived when, "In comes a zebra. Oh, it's Maisy!" In the second title, the endearing white mouse gathers the ingredients she needs and makes gingerbread cookies. As she's cleaning up the dishes, two friends arrive "Just in time for an afternoon snack." The simple texts and bright illustrations done in primary colors make these offerings appropriate for very young audiences. Good choices for laptime, but also suited to sharing in small group settings. Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY

4.0 out of 5 stars Maisie's A Star, January 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Maisy Dresses Up (Paperback)
Colourful and bright illustrations and simple texts appeal tremendously to the preschooler. In this particular book (one of a series of adventures) Maisie decides on a costume for a party. My 21/2 year old daughter has come back to this book again and again in the last six months, except that now she likes to read it to me! Also recommended for this age and the right temperament (patient, likes imaginative play) is the Maisie Playhouse. The small cutout parts are somewhat fiddly for little fingers but it is sure to occupy you (initially) and your child in many happy hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Doesn't Like Dress Up and a Mystery (What will Maisy Be?), March 14, 2010
This review is from: Maisy Dresses Up (Paperback)
"Maisy Dresses Up" is a cute book that begins with Maisy being invited to a costume party at Tallulah's.

TALKING POINTS:::
Bright colorful artwork typifies the Maisy series from Lucy Cousins and most older babies, toddlers and younger preschoolers enjoy her books.

The idea of a party, particularly a costume party, is pretty interesting to most small fry, and from what I've seen this topic grabs their attention right away. Particularly after the author asks the question, "what will Maisy be?"

Lucy Cousins does a great job in this one of building tension as she makes suggestions for what Maisy might be, only to take that option off the table because one of Maisy's friends --Charley or Eddie or Cyril...-- is already dressing up as that.

Frugal mom's like myself, will like that Maisy doesn't buy an outfit, but makes her own disguise.

Overall, an entertaining book and one of the better Maisy's.
