Perfect for one-year-olds!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Maisy Makes Gingerbread (Paperback)
I've read this book so many times to my 15-month-old, I can recite it from memory! He started going nuts for it around the time he turned one; that's when he wanted a little more of a story line. This book and the other three in the group (Maisy's Bedtime, Maisy Dresses Up, and Maisy's Pool) are one step up from the one-picture-and-one-word per page kinds of books for babies, but not so high up that they start having way too much text per page. A typical page in this book is "Maisy puts the cookies in the oven." Just one simple sentence and one wonderful bright Lucy Cousins illustration per page-spread; ten page-spreads total.

Thoroughly engaging!,
This review is from: Maisy Makes Gingerbread (Paperback)
All the Maisy books are wonderful, and this is no exception. The text is simple and straightforward, but the illustrations are where the book really shines. Bold and bright, they are attractive to everyone from the youngest child to adults. My 2-year-old daughter asks for her Maisy books again and again, and currently this and "Count with Maisy" are her favorites. In this book Maisy bakes cookies in simple steps (including licking the bowl!) and then Charley and Tallulah stop by just in time to have a cookie shaped just like them. It's so much fun it makes it easy to read it again and again when your child asks for the same book every night!

Drops toy and pays attention,

My little one was read her first Maisy book at 3 months of age and was delighted. Now she is 5 months old and would drop her toy and look up when I start the book by saying "Maisy makes...."She recognizes the name and gives me a toothless smile while her legs are kicking of excitement. She loves the big black letters and more the bold colorful pictures. She seems to anticipate when I turn the page. All of Maisy's books are short and cute. In my opinion they are the perfect length for an infant's attention span. We hope you enjoy the book as much as we do!!:)

My 2 1/2 year-old daughter loves Maisy! We originally borrowed this book from the library, and after checking it out repeatedly, I decided to buy it. She has memorized the words and relates the story to when she and I bake together. She can't get enough of this book!

It's hard to pick a favorite of the Maisy books--it seems to be whichever one we're reading at the time. This one is especially fun if your child is at all interested in working in the kitchen. After reading "Maisy Makes Gingerbread" (numerous times), my 2-year-old and I made gingerbread cookies together. She enjoyed following the steps, "just like Maisy," and while we were eating the cookies, she said, "Yum, yum. Nice gingerbread cookies, Maisy!" (the text from the last page of the book). I think most toddlers and preschoolers love these books because they all contain activities with which they're familiar. "Maisy Makes Gingerbread" can grow into a fun activity for a rainy day (now let's work on "Maisy Cleans Up"!)

Hey, Maisy Can Cook, Too,

This review is from: Maisy Makes Gingerbread (Paperback)
If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world. Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children. In this book, Maisy is in her kitchen making gingerbread when a surprise visitor drops by. Who can it be and will the visitor get to eat any of the gingerbread? Warning, your child may decide to try to cook soemthing after reading this book. |
