5.0 out of 5 stars colorful, interesting and interactive book, June 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
My 4 year old never tires of this book and couldn't wait to get her hands on it. Lucy Cousins has wonderful illustrations that are eye-catching and fun. I wouldn't recommend it to a young child, as the pieces often don't sit up as planned and require quite fine motor skills. It's more of a "toy" than a book, but is educational nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars great playhouse for preschoolers -- no batteries required!!, January 31, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
What a wonderful value this is -- an adorable and fun playhouse setup, creatively designed and waiting for a lucky child to discover its many hidden surprises. The book comes tied with two red ribbons. You can "read" the book and let each of the three rooms (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom) appear individually, or you can unfold the house and tie the ribbons with the book covers back-to-back so that the three-room house is completely accessible as a sort of diorama. Your preschooler boy or girl will have hours of low-tech fun playing with Maisy as she dresses, bathes or showers, cooks and plays. Three sheets of pop-out accessories include clothes, dishes, food, etc. which can be placed in the closets and cupboards and other nooks and crannies.

A sliding window depicts a day or nighttime sky over Maisy's bed. A pie is in the oven. Clothes hang in the closet. A toilet with a lid that raises. There are loads of fun little surprises here. My advice: get this even for a little child who may tear the cardboard pieces. You can always tape them together or buy another playhouse, but you can't always find a cute, fun setup for little ones that requires imagination more than batteries, allowing children to act out stories in a familiar home-y environment.

Highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars independent play, June 22, 2004

My daughter received this book when she was just a little over two years old. She was already a Maisy fan. What shocked me was that she disappeared into the bedroom one day, and when I went to go check on her, she was quietly playing all by herself with this. I didn't figure it would last long. Finally, almost an hour later, I had to go in and get her to go to the grocery store. She is almost three now and STILL loves to play independently with this book/toy - it's the only toy which occupies her independently for hours on end. I bought her the farm version too, which she also likes. A definite winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars A toy not a book, April 6, 2004
By

This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
This is a "book" that folds out to a house - complete with kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It has accessories, including Maisy, her toy panda, sailboat, rubber ducky, clothes, toothbrush, hairbrush, food, drinks, etc, etc. The cupboards and fridge open to reveal food, dishes and more. The bathroom has incredible attention to detail, including toilet paper that actually rolls out a little. I have a 3 year old daughter and she will play with this for hours. The toys are made of paper which is pretty durable, but are showing some wear. It doesn't bother her. This is one of her favorite toys and she plays with it every day. At first I was worried about the set getting ruined by little hands, but it is holding out very well. I highly recommend this toy for Maisy fans. There is a Maisy Farmhouse which is a great companion to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful playhouse!!!, April 1, 2004

I was actually pleasantly deceived by this "book" I purchased this via Amazon over the star reviews and the fact that my daughter LOVES Maisy and her books. I didn't even realize that this is a pop up house of Maisy's bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. There are pop out food and plates to put it the cupboard, fridge that all really open. A stand up Maisy doll with multiple outfits to change her in. Even a pop out bed with a cover for her! This is a wonderful toy for a preschooler and enhances their imagination. The only problem that I truly see in this "book" is no where to store all the little pieces it comes with. I just attached a ziplock to the book to prevent the tiny pieces from getting lost. This was my 2.5yr old daughter's favorite Christmas present - I don't think she was quite old enough to keep it very neat but she has played for hours and hours! I purchased another one for when she is a little older. Very reasoable price and a sure pleaser!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, August 22, 2004
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
I purchased this book and the Maisy Farm book to take on vacation with us. They traveled well and when we opened the book we loved the playhouse. My 3 year old laughed with joy when she say Maisy and all the wonderful things in her house. Best yet - when we left vacation we folded the book and packed it. This is one of her favorite toys now.

5.0 out of 5 stars has held interest for may years, November 29, 2001

This book was a gift for my daughter when she was two. She is now 7 and has younger siblings, who are now 4. They all still play with it. It has not fallen apart at all and we still have most of the pieces. My children play with this more than they do with their (much fancier and more expensive) "real" dollhouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had to buy a second one, May 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
My two year old loves this book. We take it on trips and she lets her imagination run free by having all of her toys visit Maisy's house. She used it so much that we had to buy a second one since the first got so worn out. Still one of her favorites as other toys come and go.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best of Maisie, November 23, 2001
By
Georgina McAuliffe (Adelaide, South Australia Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
My 2 year old adores this book. We keep it at her grandmas house and she rushes to see it every time we visit. Not really a book - more like a dolls house that happens to fold flat and looks like a book! Actually when open it has 3 rooms - kitchen, bedroom and bathroom together with Maisie and lots of bits and pieces like her panda, clothes, food, hairbrush, soap, toothpaste, towel, cup, etc. Each room has lots of things to examine - the cover on the bed lifts up, the bedroom curtain pulls changing from day to night scene, the chest of drawers drawers pull out - the list is endless!! My little girl likes to take Maisie through a days routine and this includes undressing her, putting her in the shower or bath and then gently rubbing her with the cardboard towel saying "snug as a bug". A real joy. I know she would have loved it from about age 1 had I known about it then.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maisy's Big Flap Book, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Maisy's Pop-up Playhouse (Hardcover)
All the children I work with love this book(pre-school age). They are engaged for extended periods of time in pretend play. Also a wonderful educational tool in which to elicit important vocabulary.

A key book(toy) to that should be in every a child's home.
