Few could read from these pages without being changed. To some the extraordinary insights into world events will be of major interest, while to others the laying bare of the secrets of self-realization, the simple description of experienced truth, will be a revelation. To anyone seeking to understand the Laws of Life, these subtle and pregnant insights will take them quickly to the core of Life itself, and provide them with a simple path stretching to the mountain-top. The essential unity of all life is underscored in a clear and meaningful way. Never, it would appear, have the laws by which we live seemed so natural and so unconstraining.
Students of the esoteric tradition know all these as different names for the same individual the Lord Maitreya, the World Teacher, the head of the Spiritual Hierarchy of Masters of Wisdom, and they look for his imminent return.
In July 1977, Maitreya emerged from his centre in the Himalayas, when least expected, "like a thief in the night". Since then, he has lived in London as a seemingly ordinary man concerned with modern problems political, economic and social. Since March 1978, he has been emerging as a spokesman in the Pakistani-Indian community. He is not a religious leader, but an educator in the broadest sense pointing the way out of the present! world crisis.
Maitreya does not intend to build a new religion around himself, nor to create followers, but to teach humanity "the art of Self-realization". The first steps are "honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit and detachment."
Maitreyas social concern is reflected in his list of priorities: an adequaate supply of the right food, adequate housing and shelter for all, healthcare and education as universal rights. His social message can be summarized in a few words: "Share and save the world." Maitreya knows we will accept his advice and that we are on the threshold of an era of peace and goodwill.

A spiritual take on politics,
By Ilias Chrissochoidis (Stanford, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maitreya's Teachings: The Laws of Life (Paperback)
This is a most unusual and intriguing book. Its ideas will warm the heart of the virtuous and stimulate the open-minded as much as they will enrage the ideologue and the fundamentalist. Written in a simple language and presented as short commentaries arranged by subject, it is suitable for the general reader and, particularly, the awakening citizen of our times. The book expounds the principle of "be who you really are" and shows its relevance to personal fulfillment, social harmony, and political stability. The qualities leading to the first are self-awareness, honesty, and detachment. Respecting other people's identity, freedom, and human rights brings about the second. The third, finally, is the expression of all the above in the act of sharing the world's resources. What makes its ideas remarkably vivid is their application to world events in the period of 1988-1993: the poll tax revolt and the subsequent fall of Margaret Thatcher in the UK; Gorbachev's hasty reforms and the collapse of the Soviet Union; and the Middle East crisis. The book offers incisive commentary on the causes and effects of the Gulf War and describes hitherto unknown incidents regarding President G. H. Bush, Saddam Hussein, the Sheikh of Kuwait, and General Colin Powell. In my opinion, spiritual politics would be a suitable (and certainly appealing) title for the book. By probing the failure of our institutions to help us "be who we really are," it delivers a call for their reform. Its brave inclusion of market forces and religious orthodoxy to the powers of social oppression will surely unnerve many readers. Even so, its honest and clear stance offers solid ground for further exploration of these topics. Actually, I would recommend it as a textbook for courses on spiritual activism, of which we will hear much in the future.

What everyone should know,
By Rob Robbins (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maitreya's Teachings: The Laws of Life (Paperback)
How many times have you thought: people don't know how to live -how to survive much less be happy. Well, here is the book which tells it all, simply, clearly and lovingly. It makes sense that we should not hurt each other. It makes sense that what we think and do comes back to us. Like the Law of Gravity, you can choose to ignore the laws of life, but life is so much better when you adhere to them. Thanks, Maitreya, for this treasure.

Well worth reading,
By Bryony Jones (Auckland, New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maitreya's Teachings: The Laws of Life (Paperback)
It's been said that 'the quality of the teacher is found in the teachings' - the wonderful quality and depth of the teachings in this book indicates that Maitreya is a most enlightened teacher indeed. I found this to be a book full of wisdom and 'food for thought'. As well as Maitreya's insights regarding the laws of life, there are many fascinating forecasts on world events. You will probably want to read this book again and again.
