This is the first recording i've heard from Le Trio Joubran and I am enthralled by what they've created. As an oud player myself, i've amassed quite a library of oud music. This one is unique, something different. The trio play so beautifully together and have created a sound that is very much their own, in my opinion. Their ability to move from racing lines and crafted heads instantly and fluidly into locked simple grooves and subtle textures is sublime. Very well produced (bordering on "slick" production but not over the top). I highly recommend this recording for contemporary oud music.

Make no mistake, you do not need to be an Arab to love this music. It is enough if you like flamenco, this record will help you understand about its roots. I was listening the CD for a few weeks, day by day, not being bored. Beautiful music, perfect playing and high quality recording. A must for all fans of Paco de Lucia! Hopefully, they'll meet and play together one day.

Music, at its best, expands our understanding.,

Consider that you're a 60-ish, white male, living in Ohio. You have had very little personal contact with Arabs: nothing in your experience has contributed towards favorable views of their culture. It hasn't always been easy to sympathize with them, this complicated by the mosaic of our political and military involvement in their affairs. Their culture is vastly dissimilar to ours. When we happen upon the music on the radio, we find it hard to identify with its "foreign" quality to our unsophisticated ear.
Along come Le Trio Joubran, brothers born in Nazareth who formulate a troupe of Oud musicians of extraordinary talent, whose performances, to Western ears, are so compelling that they've become a breakthrough alternative hit in our country. I've grabbed up every one of their releases, which I return to often. They are favorite artists, which, as I see it, can only be a good thing in Our World of Alienation. Majaz |
