Good but I prefer a more classic style,

This review is from: Majesty of America (Audio CD)
This 2-CD set is a compilation of 28 songs of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's. The voice are superb but there are too often some "stirring" introductions and some vocal performances inside the songs that transform these patriotic songs in a kind of Hollywood show. I prefer a more classic style for patriotic songs because it is easier to listen or to sing along when you know what will happen in the next 5 seconds. Simplicity is the key word for a good result but in this case the key word is "complexity with vocal performances".

This review is from: Majesty of America (Audio CD)
This album comes with 2 CDs, and is a combination of religious hymns and patriotic songs. The patriotic songs are energetic, and made me march around the room. (Because nobody was watching, and I'm weird sometimes.) Anyway, this album is one of those rarest of products: Something that gives you MORE value for your money than you expect.
The only caveat (which didn't bother me, but YMMV): Several songs here are sung SATB with lyrics, when you're used to hearing them as instrumentals. "Stars and Stripes Forever," to name just one, is startling to hear being SUNG. |
