Product Description

“Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim” is a vast magical world where you are honored with the crown of a tiny fairytale kingdom. When you become the head of the country all the responsibility for the land's prosperity rests on your royal shoulders. You will have to fight various enemies and monsters, explore new territories, manage economic and scientific developments and solve a heap of unusual and unexpected tasks. For example, what will you do when all the gold in the kingdom transforms into cookies? Or how will you bring back the trolls who robbed caravans and whose disappearance ruins the economy of the country?

The core feature of “Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim” is that you cannot control your citizens directly. There are a lot of heroes in your lands: valiant warriors and warlike barbarians, powerful wizards and grim necromancers, industrious dwarves and skilful elves plus many more. But all of them live their own lives and decide for themselves what to do at any moment. You are able to issue orders but heroes will follow your commands only for a sizeable reward.

“Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim” contains elements of role play: while fulfilling your orders, the heroes improve their skills and talents, as well as earn cash to be spent on new equipment, weapons, and magical elixirs.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! According to game devs (from Paradox forums): "Guys, sanbox/skirmish is planned for next version (hopefully Q3 or so, although can't really promise anything about time). There will be an add-on with more missions, too." It's not clear if they mean to release it as update to this, or as a separate app for purchase, though.

TL;DR version:
If you loved Majesty on PC, absolutely buy this. It's like half of the original game for $2, on your Android device.

For those who don't know what Majesty is (if you do, read below!):

This game is a remake of a PC game from 2002 - "Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim", a cult classic in a very rare "indirect control strategy" genre. I suggest that you read the Wikipedia article on that [...]as practically everything said there applies to this game as well.

To sum it up in a few words. Imagine your typical monster-bashing action-RPG game, where you as a hero delve into dungeons, raid lairs, and do simple "find and kill or fetch" quests, gaining XP and buying armor and weapons as you progress. Got the picture? Now, have you ever thought what the ruler of the kingdom where your exploits take place thinks of all this? That's the role you'll be taking in Majesty!

Overall this looks like an RTS where you build a "base" centered around your castle, with most important buildings being hero guilds, where you hire heroes. Now here comes the catch - you can click on a hero and see what he's like and what's on his mind, but you can't tell him what to do. He's a free adventurer. He has a unique name, hit points, and stats; he earns XP for kills and various class-specific performances and gets levels (and better stats!

Majesty, for those who don't know, is a cult classic real-time strategy game for the PC in which you play the role of a king. The twist of the game is that you never directly control your units; instead, you provide them with the equipment and upgrades they need to survive and then offer bounties for exploration or for combat. The result is an addictive simulation-style strategy game that has been ported very nicely to the Android platform.

Majesty for Android is a slimmed-down and streamlined version of the PC game, and it's only going to be an amusing diversion for those who have played the original. But first-timers are likely to find themselves addicted to this game. Each mission requires about a half an hour to play (or longer, if you haven't mastered the basics), and while none of them are particularly challenging, there's a lot of replay value since certain actions award you higher scores, and missions play differently depending upon the types of units you construct.

The production values are extremely high, and the cutesy cartoon graphics, excellent soundtrack and smooth interface are all impressive. In some ways, I prefer the style to the PC original, and that's a big compliment considering the fact that phone-based ports of existing games are rarely flattering.

My only gripe is that the game goes out of its way to be unhelpful in telling you how to play it. If you're not familiar with the original game, you'll spend a lot of time in trial and error, and it's still not entirely clear to me how the point system works. If you want gold medals, you generally have to fulfill some secret objective hinted at by the mission objectives (which may or may not mean a speed-run).

This game is great, but you may want to buy it elsewhere. At the time of writing this review, the most current version for this game is 1.12.19, which was released on Android Market on November 10, 2011. Amazon has version 1.10.10, which was released back in August and has not been updated since then. Since I bought this app from Android Market in October, I have received two updates from Android Market. If you buy it from Amazon AppStore, Android Market will not update the game to its the most current version for you, and you will be stuck with an old version.

In fact, that is a serious problem with Amazon AppStore: too many of its apps are outdated and never receive updates. Amazon AppStore rarely receive app updates like Android Market frequently does. I have already stopped buying apps from Amazon unless the apps are expensive and 50-percent off. Otherwise, I only use Amazon AppStore for one reason: to grab the daily freebies. I recommend you do the same until Amazon decides to keep their apps up-to-date.

Majesty is a *very* simple rpg, with a touch of tower defense thrown in. It is closest in gameplay to any pc game among the 50 or so aps I have downloaded. That said, it is a very simple game: you start with a castle and build additional buildings which enable the purchase of warriors, healers, scouts, armour and weapons. Where it differs from every rpg I have played (and really, I would say makes it not truly a rpg) is that you are not playing as a hero, or even leading a team. You are setting up a town. In that sense it is almost more like a sim game. Whatever you call it, there is more depth, better graphics than you get with just about any android game which is out right now. I will echo what many others have said; it could use some more levels. However it is $2, not 20, so it is hard to complain. I have no complaints and feel like I got what I paid for.

I will add that it works without a problem of any sort on the archos 70. I did have to use taskill to close some things running in the background once I was past the first few missions. But it did not throw up a fatal exception force close. it seems to be better written/ coded than the vast majority of android apps.

The one caveat is that it has just a few levels; 6-8 (as others have mentioned). I do not see this as a real issue. It is not like a trial version (where you get 1 or 2 levels, it just is not very long). You definitely get your $2 worth! A great game for what it costs. I hope they expand it, add more levels. I would be willing to pay for add-ons, as this is a *very* reasonably priced game, a good value for the quality, entertainment value.
