Beautiful and Moving,
By
This review is from: Majesty & Wonder: An Instrumental Christmas (Audio CD)
This album was a wonderful addition to my small collection of Christmas music. More than any other compilation of seasonal music, this set of musical endeavors coaxed me to sit down, listen and contemplate the meaning of Christmas. While many may know Phil for his skillful guitar playing, the thing that stood out most for me with this album was the beautiful way in which the music was arranged and presented. In many of the works, I found myself floating among the various instrumental colors as they painted the canvas of the soul. I would strongly recommend this album for anyone looking for something that will carry them beyond the commercialism that has infiltrated the season. If there is a cure of the sense of frantic, hectic rush that so often descends on each of us at the end of the year, this album is certainly a part of it.

Wonderful, majestic and surprising,

I bought this album to see how Phil Keaggy would sound with an orchestra behind him. To say the least it is beautiful. He takes known christmas tunes and gives them new perspectives that are surprising and moving. The best thing I can say about this album is I listen to it when its not December.

My favorite Christmas CD ever,

What a nice surprise! Phil Keaggy comes through again. This is easily my favorite Christmas CD I've got. The arrangements are beautiful and really show a masterful touch. The guitar is wonderful of course--what else can we expect from the greatest guitar player in the world? The album definitely isn't centered around the guitar, although it plays a large part. The whole CD has a Celtic feel to it, actually. I guess that's not a surprise since Phil's Irish, after all. The arrangements of some of the moodier songs, such as Coventry Carol and O Come Emmanuel, are the most beautiful I've ever heard. I'm a writer, and poetry just keeps popping out of me while I'm listening to this CD. It really puts me in a nice holiday mood. Music that truly lets you feel the Spirit of Christmas. Oh, BTW, this isn't "background music" at all. It really comes at you, moreso than most vocal music, in my opinion. Highly, highly recommended. I'm here buying it for my aunt, in fact. (Hopefully she won't see this here!)
