"We don't need no stinking varnish!", January 23, 2005
This review is from: Major Bob Unvarnished: Why We Keep Making the Same Mistakes (Paperback)
This is a powerful book, an important book. It contains warnings about our national security that I hope will be heeded. It also contains war stories - amusing ones, high adventure ones, and informative ones. There is great descriptive writing about the scenes in Iraq, Lebanon, and other places. I now have a vivid image of the beauty of the Bekaa Valley and surrounding mountains in my mind's eye. These are all great reasons to read the book, but Bevelacqua's foresight concerning the future of the USA and the civilized world makes this book necessary reading.
Detailed information on security for corporate America is spelled out as a free professional security presentation to all. I hope they read the book. Our safety is at risk when companies don't have good security in place, especially at our airports, seaports, and highways, where big trucks with minimum security are constantly on the road, day and night.
One of the most important chapters was on unconventional warfare. This discussion was to serve as a guideline for avoiding the mistakes we have made in the past. Great recommendations are made here. Won't someone in authority please pay attention?
I have studied the history of the Middle East, and I can say that Major Bob's grasp of the roots of hatred in that area and his analysis of the situation are right on the money and expressed in such a succinct and easy to understand way that it blew me away. This was only a foretaste of his closing thoughts. In one place, he said, "Somebody needs to tell the God-awful truth here. Again, why me, Lord?" The passage in Esther 4:14 comes to mind. "...who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" In any case, Major Bob, you are the man for the job, and, in my opinion, you have succeeded spectacularly.
I won't spoil the book for you by spelling out his closing thoughts. But my advice is: READ IT! Your future may depend on it. I will say that his recommendation is the best case of delegation of authority I have ever read. Great Book! 5 Stars! 2 Thumbs Up!!

Finally....someone telling it how it is, January 18, 2005
This review is from: Major Bob Unvarnished: Why We Keep Making the Same Mistakes (Paperback)
"Major Bob Unvarnished" is a gift to anyone who is interested in getting a real-life perspective of world affairs, US foreign policy and America's influence in the Middle East from the ground. Major Bob's no bullsh*t style approach offers a refreshing take on issues that are so systematically drowned out with spin and personal agendas that the American public hasn't had a chance to glimpse a piece of the truth. Really a great read, the book is full of intelligent insight and fresh perspectives. I recommend it to anyone who respects our country's heroes--the men and women who live to sacrifice themselves in the arena of life instead of those people who seek praise by judging issues they have no knowledge of from a safe distance. 5 stars.

Major Bob knocks it out of the park!, October 11, 2006
This review is from: Major Bob Unvarnished: Why We Keep Making the Same Mistakes (Paperback)
Major Bob has truely knocked one out of the park with this insightful and gripping reality check. I was delightfully pleased to see that someone in our society still has the nerve to tell it like it is. This book should be mandatory reading in Congress, for White House staffers and in every military institution of higher learning. Major Bob drills down to the very core of the problem and addresses in a very direct way, why we, the United States of America, keeps making the same mistakes. My only regret in reading it; it wasn't longer.
