5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised, February 28, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Major League Baseball 2K7 (Video Game)
I did a lot of research on the 2 upcoming baseball releases for the PSP, The Show, and 2k7.

The previews for the two games seem to favor 2K7 slightly, but last year's 2k6 by most accounts had too many bugs to be called equal to The Show... Also, I was one of the unlucky consumers to buy 2k6 for the XBox 360 last year and I'm actually still angry about that abortion of game...

So for those reason I was ready to go with MLB 2007: The Show... until I found out that it would not include a dynasty mode. That's a deal breaker for me.

So all I could do is hold my breath and hope that 2k7 would come through with some big improvements... and to my amazement, they did. In fact the game has far surpased my expectations.

The graphics are much sharper than I had expected and the players are as close to accurate as you can ask for on a handheld platform.

The menu is well organized and easy to navigate.

The gameplay is smooth and as realistic as any console version... pitching, hitting, and fielding are pretty straight forward. The learning curve for that is about an inning.

However, after about 4 games I still don't have a total grasp of the baserunning, but that's an issue with just about every baseball game out there.

Another big plus is in game time. By turning off cut scenes and scaling back replays I'm able to get through a game in 30-35 minutes which is ideal for a handheld.

The only complaint I really have is with the rosters... they're WAY behind and of course there is no roster update yet. So I had to spend a good 45 minutes trying to get that straight and to be honest I'm pretty sure I still missed a handfull of moves.

The minor league could be a little more in depth, but that's more of a limitation of the UMD space than the game makers.

The bottom line is it's an outstanding game, and for baseball purist this is THE handheld version to own.

4.0 out of 5 stars work in progress, March 26, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Major League Baseball 2K7 (Video Game)
Have just started digging into this product after playing extensively on the 2K6 version. Mostly the same quality as the previous year's as far as graphics, audio, game play, etc. One quibble so far -- noticed that the Cooperstown Hall of Fame legends team has less players than it did on the 2K6 version -- i.e. no more Mike Schmidt, Willie Stargell, Whitey Ford, a few others. Haven't fully checked out the current NL/AL all-star teams and other legendary teams yet.

will add more as I discover...

3.0 out of 5 stars who's that bitch on the cover!?, June 16, 2007
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Major League Baseball 2K7 (Video Game)
This is a great game - but c'mon - why did you have to put that dumb-a-- dopey s--- head yank on the cover - what's his name? - DEREK CHEATER??? Hopefully he'll get the EA curse and get injured ... I was hoping to see a real ball player on the cover - like MVP Justin Morneau, not this jerk-off - but I guess they put this out before the real MVP came out...

Otherwise the game is ok - very challenging - never played these sports games before - I'm more of a FPS - but I got this because my fiance and I are into baseball. So we can't comment on this versus the other EA games. So far it's very interesting - and the graphics aren't that bad...
