4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Filled Baseball Action, September 27, 2006

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Major League Baseball 2K5 (World Series Edition) (Video Game)
I picked this game up for 15 bones at the local game store, and I have to say that I'm impressed. All the ESPN stuff was removed, which is a downside. However, that's because when this game came out, ESPN decided to give all their rights to EA and went away from Sega. Ah, oh well.

So the game suffers a tad in presentation. The announcing is still great, but the music on the menus is actually bad as it studders and stops and for some reason is buggy.

On the contrary to what the kids were saying here, I actually found the pitching to be too easy. I play with the Kansas City Royals, and I find it difficult NOT to strike someone out, and I play the game on the middle high level of 3(there are about 5 levels of difficulty: 1 being the easiest and 5 being the hardest). The thing thought that I love most about this game when I'm on the defensive side of the ball is that everything is incredibally simple. All I have to do in order to reach, dive, stretch, or whatever in order to catch the ball, is point the right analog stick in the direction of the ball, and that's it. Throwing to each base is simple, and like every other Sega Sports game out there on the PS2 in order to go turbo you just hold on the R1 button. To pick off players trying to steal you just tap the direction of the base to where you want to throw by hitting the d-pad once. That's it. I'm not going any further in detail, but as you can probably gather, this game is very easy to pick up and play. Offense is just as simple.

For me, gameplay is everything about a game so that's why I actually fell in love with this game. Simple, and not complex. If you know a lot about baseball there is actually quite a bit of control you can have over your team. You can call players up from the minors, make schedules for your pitchers, blah blah blah you get the picture that you have virtually total control of your team. For baseball fans like myself who just want to play the game, you can have the CPU deal with all that so all you have to do is simulate to the next game, and I love that feature.

The graphics are descent, and not the greatest I've seen but also much better than what I've seen in other baseball games. EA probably has everyone beat in that category as this comes in a distant 2nd and could almost give up that graphics spot to Acclaim's All-Star Series. The ball parks are well done, however, and what is lost in detail on the players makes up for it when you see each stadium richly designed in detail right down to the very seats within the stadium.

The bonus DVD that comes with the game about some of the greatest World Series games played is fairly nice and entertaining to watch. The game itself has some various features unique to this version that the origanol 2k5 baseball game did not have.

Overall, this game is extremely fun and easy to pick up. I gave it only 4 stars because some of the presentation was lacking, and I found this game a little bit on the non-challenging side unless you crank up the difficulty settings.
