Now, I'll admit that even thought the interface and tutorial make this game seem like it will be a cakewalk (move baton to rhythm, wave to have others join), there's a big learning curve, mainly in keeping with the proper pace so that you don't lose band members and remembering what symbol means what when seeing who you're going toofast/slow for. However, once you dedicate a couple of rounds to getting the hang of it, you'll find that MMMM is a pretty enjoyable experience.
I would recommend this game to any fan of the rhythm and music genre, but do not buy it just because the art style is reminiscent of Parappa, or because the same people worked on it. Sure, the cutesy story scenes and quirky style of the game are very similar to that iconic title, but this is a whole other game altogether. The graphics themselves aren't awe-inspiring, but the art direction and colorful back-drops shine through. It's also great to hear how the pace of the tunes in each stage speed up or slow down in real-time depending on how fast or slow you move the baton. I had a fun time with MMMM. Overall I'd say it is a highly recommended and highly underrated gem of the music genre and deserves a second look. Ignore anyone who didn't like it because they didn't get the hang of it right away. My only complaint is that after playing a few stages your arm WILL be tired. Alternate the arm you use if you can!

Though it is a TOTALLY different game, you can really feel the flavor of Parappa the Rapper in this game. It is incredibly original and innovative. Let's face it, there aren't a lot of good Wii games out there. For it's low price (I paid 10 dollars), it is worth a shot. The songs are good marching band songs, the characters have funny names (like GGGG), the controls are hilarious (and accurate), and the voicing/script is hilarious. I guess it depends on your sense of humor. I mean after all, how is it not funny when you are constantly moving the controller up and down? It will not win any awards but at least it is a challenging game and frankly, I enjoy a good challenge. I would go as far to say that this is certainly not meant for anyone younger than a teen. The game should probably have an ESRB rating of TEEN, because it takes so much skill (and has unintentional sexual innuendo). If you are not doing well, you will stop marching and have to restart. It can be very berating to a little kid if they keep losing. The songs are very good and the dialogue and be very comical. If you enjoy a challenge, are a fan of Parappa The Rapper, and perhaps most importantly - have a sense of humor, then try out this game. Playing with friends (solo or multiplayer) might be a surprisingly hilarious experience. If you enjoy good innuendo, also be sure to try No More Heroes or Mario Party 8's "Shake it up" minigame. But don't actually buy Mario Party 8 because well, it sucks...

I loved the idea of a marching band game, seeing as I'm in marching band. While gameplay itself is enjoyable, the plot is bland and repetitive. Thankfully after beating the game once, cutscenes can be skipped.
If one has been in marching band before, forget all knowledge except timing. The way to hold the Wiimote to make it happy is a skill to be learned, like a guitar player picking up rock band. It's like one of those online games you can download, same thing over and over again.

Don't be fooled by the cutesy characters, this is not an easy game for kids! We got it for our 4 year old to play thinking he could handle it, but it's tough. With that being said, if you're into band and marching band music, it can be kinda cool. If you've got no rhythm, though, you're outta luck.

We purchased this game because it was cheap and recommended for preschooler. HORRIBLE. My daughter was bored after about 10 minutes, and actually told me the game was bad. And it almost seems like the game berated the child if they messed up. Just glad we didn't pay full price for it. I think it might do us better as a coaster now.

My husband picked this out for my 5 and 6 year old's. We took it home and tried to play it, but they hated it. They couldn't even get past the tutorial before they were frowning and I could tell they were not having fun. Thank god we only wasted $5 on this game. I even found it hard to control, and if an adult has trouble with the game, how are children expected to be able to play it? I will qualify that we are new to the Wii and we only have the Wiimotes without the motion detector, I don't know if getting that would help with the game controls, but we will not be keeping this game anyway.

I got this game because I figured it'd be a good game for my preschooler to play...simple easy...but you know what...too easy and quite boring. All you do is wave the wiimote up and down. It gets old really quick and my daughter asks to play something else. My husband tried to play it for 5-10 minutes but its just dull...wish I wouldn't have paid full price for it...want it? Get it used...

Do you have fun waving a stick for hours on end? Maybe this game is for you. Otherwise, it's not.
The chief mechanic in this game is waving the remote to the beat of music, which is something you don't even need a game console to do. Really, all you do in this game is wave the remote. It gets old after about a minute. This is a classic example of the type of gimmicky game that the Wii can be known for. These types of games are what fuel the "just for kids" stereotype about the Wii. Don't fuel the stereotype, don't buy the game. |
