Book Description

This volume offers an examination of the nation's urban development and reflects the city's pivotal role in the unfolding of American history. The Second Edition has been significantly revised to include more than 75% new content and a greater emphasis on suburbanization and historically marginalized groups. Chapters included in this edition focus on the lower classes and class relations and conditions; the evolution of technology; race relations and redevelopment in the postwar era; and significant changes in urbanization. In order to address the current urban climate, the final chapter focuses on violence and the search for security in a post-September 11th America.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Educational, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Major Problems in American Urban and Suburban History (Major Problems in American History Series) (Paperback)
Full of documents and essays written by unknown people in the 19th and 20th century, you're given an insiders look at how the new nation was forming and becoming what it is today. It helps you understand more about the beginnings of this country. I find it pretty fun to read actually, a whole lot better than most textbooks out there.

this book has an extremely leftist bias. It is a book of primary sources but seems to only use excerpts from the primary sources that serve the liberal agenda, little or no conservative sources are consulted, unless to be made to look foolish. its very one sided.
