5.0 out of 5 stars Makana's Debut Album Transports Listeners to Another World, December 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Makana (Audio CD)
This is one of those CD's that you throw in to be taken to a far away place. Makana's beautiful acoustic guitar riffs are simple and mezmorizing, while his clean voice does wonders for the down-to-earth lyrics. Relive the most painful and wonderful experiences of friendships made and lost, love, and loneliness and be swept away by the few songs done completely in Hawaiian. Not AT ALL cheesy or pop-like, this is a CD that can bring even the toughest men to their knees. A must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Talent, July 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Makana (Audio CD)
My husband and I vacationed to Kauai in 2000 and heard Makana there for the first time. We bought his CD and haven't stopped listening to it ever since. If you appreciate pure, talented artists this one is for you. I love his rendition of "only you" (originally recorded by Yaz in the late 80's). His acoustical style is one of a kind!

I recently saw Makana live in a very small setting, and I have to say, I haven't seen a guitarist this talented in a long time. He has trained with the master slack-key guitarists, many of whom are no longer with us, and this young artist is carrying on this unique tradition. His stuff is beautiful and original--you shouldn't miss it!

I own a lot of CD's and this one has a special place in my collection. I actually bought this for a friend of mine, an audiophile, and we were both impressed with the quality of the recording, the beautiful guitar work, and the heartfelt singing. Highest recommendations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Capturing the vibe of the Islands, October 22, 2010

I really like the smooth feel of this CD. I wanted more instrumental, but Makana's voice is quite soothing and his lyrics poetic. I would buy more, but I would prefer a CD that showcases the unusual rythms and sycopations in the instrumental parts of this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Prepare to fly to Hawaii..., June 1, 2009

Makana transports you to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. I had a chance to see him twice when he came to NYC. Can't wait to see him next time I visit Hawaii.
