More About the Author

I am a wife, mother of two grown sons, an elementary school teacher, and a true foodie.

My passion for cooking has evolved into the publication of my first cookbook, Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms. I found that despite my love of cooking, I was often tired after work and lacked the motivation to produce a great meal day after day. In search of a better way, I turned my family-favorite meals into make-ahead meals.

Through years of experimenting with my recipes in the kitchen, I learned what meals tasted just as great after being frozen and what meals were not acceptable to freeze. While some meals didn't freeze well, they allowed for preparation the night before, ultimately saving time the following day. The recipes in my book include make-ahead directions for main dishes, appetizers, side dishes, breads, desserts and soups. I am hopeful that many busy moms will find my make-ahead recipes both beneficial and delicious, which will be the ultimate compliment to this cook!

Perhaps "Don't Panic, dinners in the freezer" would be a better selection. This book is a misnomer- it doesn't help you plan ahead for more than 24 hours. Anyone can figure out to do their prep work in advance then store the food in the fridge. Other negative aspects
1. no photos
2. recipes include things like "Cheese Whiz"
3. directions are for one meal at a time, (to save time- I like to make more than one meal)
4. very large type (could be a plus for some people- it make me dizzy)
5. baking instructions are for odd sized pans

I will donate this book to the library- not worth the shelf space.

This book is not what I need. It gives you recipes that are partially made a day ahead. I am looking for recipes that come out of the freezer. If I have time a day ahead, I'll just make the recipe. The recipes themselves are the usual ones that we have had forever and if you cook, you know what you can do ahead of time. There is not one recipe in this book that I am glad I have.

Title: Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms
Author: Jane Doiron
ISBN: 978-1-4327-2086-5
Publisher: Outskirts Press, Inc.
List Price: $17.95

Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms is a short, but concise cookbook of several recipes that can be prepared in advance. These make-ahead meals are truly a blessing and time saver for busy mothers. As a new mother myself, I found it very helpful as I made some of these meals. I work part-time, so preparing meals in advance and freeing up some time is definitely a tremendous help.

The recipes cover everything...appetizers, breakfast and brunch, main dishes, sides dishes, desserts and even soups. Also included is a chapter of helpful tips as well as measurement equivalents. The recipes are truly delicious and very easy to follow. The ingredients are not extensive either. It is a pleasure to prepare these meals, and they taste oh so good!!

Jane Doiron, is an elementary school teacher and a mom of two boys herself. Her years of experience raising her boys and experimenting with different recipes and advanced meal prepping led her to write this helpful little cookbook to assist other busy mothers as well. My favorite was the Chicken Marsala with a Twist; and for dessert - Brown Cookies and Tiramisu.

Hope you enjoy Jane Doiron's recipes as much as I have. Preparing make-ahead meals frees up my time on very busy days, and definitely has had an impact on my life. These recipes allow my day to run a little smoother. Anything that can simplify things in my busy life is worthwhile! Also, there will always be something in the house in case you get unexpected guests. Thanks Jane!

For a majority of the past 12 years, we have eaten out almost every day. Oh not always at a restaurant, but it was either that or take out. Of course things have changed over the years as nice trendy restaurants gave way to family friendly spots. An then over the past year or so, the budget crunch forced us to choose price and convenience over healthy and nutritious. The result was weight gain - a lot of it!

Over the past three plus months I have almost exclusively cooked our meals at home and aside from the occasional Kashi meal for lunch, we have eliminated preprocessed foods from our daily diet. While this has helped us lose the weight we gained over the past year, it is often hard to fit cooking into my schedule. In Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms, Jane Doiron has come up with a solution to this common problem. Her book is full of recipes that can be partially or fully made ahead the night before. This is perfect for fitting meal preparation into your schedule after the children are in bed for the night. Planning and preparing your meals this way eliminates the problem I always have which is that at about 5:30 each evening I am suddenly thinking "what are we going to have for dinner?". This is quite often the first time all day I have thought about this, so have not taken anything out of the freezer or planned ahead. Making use of some of the recipes in Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms, I now have several things on hand in the refrigerator or freezer that will make finishing a meal for my family quick and easy!

Some of the recipes we have tried are the Mini Meatloaves (we made them with ground turkey), Panko Breaded Pork Medallions, Thai Chicken Thighs - on the grill YUM!, Big Ginger Cookies and the kids personal favorite: Mexican Dip!

I have wrote about my barely there cooking skills, but with money being tight now especially with the holidays coming up, I am trying to cook more. My problem though is with two kids who are the most active in the afternoon; it is hard to prepare a nice dinner. So dinnertime for us is usually me piecing together a meal as my husband walks through the door or having him pick something up. We also have about the same 10 meals constantly, so we definitely need a change in our meal selection.

Well thanks to the book "Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms" by Jane Doiron, dinnertime has come to be something that I no longer dread. In Jane's book she breaks it down in to Appetizers, Breakfast & Brunch, Dessert, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, and Soup. She also includes a Helpful Tips and Measurement Equivalents section. The book even includes a recipe index so you can quickly find your favorites.

What I love about Make-Ahead Meals is that all the recipes include instructions to make the meals a day ahead and freeze if possible. Her recipes are all easy and use normal ingredients. By normal ingredients I mean some of the items I actually have. I hate when recipes call for ingredients that I don't even know what they are, let alone where to find them!

I am super impressed with the recipe selection too in the book. As a picky eater, I am not usually open to trying new things, and this book contains so many meal ideas that I would actually eat. I haven't yet made a meal ahead, but I have made a few for dinner (yes I found the time) and our favorite is her Chicken and Spinach Stuffed Shells recipe. I love the idea though of making meals ahead to save time and money.
