Perhaps "Don't Panic, dinners in the freezer" would be a better selection. This book is a misnomer- it doesn't help you plan ahead for more than 24 hours. Anyone can figure out to do their prep work in advance then store the food in the fridge. Other negative aspects
1. no photos 2. recipes include things like "Cheese Whiz" 3. directions are for one meal at a time, (to save time- I like to make more than one meal) 4. very large type (could be a plus for some people- it make me dizzy) 5. baking instructions are for odd sized pans I will donate this book to the library- not worth the shelf space.

Not What I need!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms (Paperback)
This book is not what I need. It gives you recipes that are partially made a day ahead. I am looking for recipes that come out of the freezer. If I have time a day ahead, I'll just make the recipe. The recipes themselves are the usual ones that we have had forever and if you cook, you know what you can do ahead of time. There is not one recipe in this book that I am glad I have.

Make ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook,

This review is from: Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms (Paperback)
If you have kids, or a job or even just a life you are most likely a busy Mom! When you are on the run and don't know what to make for dinner, this is a great cookbook with simple yet satisfying meals to prepare
that your kids will be begging for seconds. We also love that it has conversion charts in the back of the book for those days you just can't think straight with kids screaming in the background! So many delicious recipes to make for quick meals or a treat to take to the new neighbors moving in. We have loved all the recipes we have tried in the book so far... to name just a few we made her delicious Chicken Cordon Blue and chocolaty melt in your mouth fudge! I am so not a cook, and my presentation is far from spectacular but all that matters is that it tasted fabulous...right!The kids love to be in the Kitchen whenever I am cooking, and love to help. They had fun making the Fudge with me..(their request) and watching it transform from a sugar & marshmallow mixture to some sweet tooth goodness! Its great when you can find a good recipe like this one you aren't afraid to share with your friends & neighbors...and it will never go to waste! We had it gone by the next day! A great cook book to have on hand, and I love that it doesn't have lots of unusual ingredients that I don't keep on hand, or can not find in our small town, definitely a great buy!

Delicious Recipes Can Be Prepared In Advance,
By
This review is from: Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms (Paperback)
Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms is a cookbook, packed with 140 delicious recipes that can be prepared ahead of time and cooked when needed. What I like best about this book is that the only ingredients that the author recommends freezing, are the ones that will taste just as good thawed as fresh. She recognizes that some foods do not taste as good when they are thawed, so in those instances she helps us understand how to get the chopping, dicing, and other basic prep out of the way before storing foods in the refrigerator. The book isn't so much about SAVING time as it doing the work when you HAVE time. That way, when you need a meal, it can be whipped up quickly and easily.

Wonderful Cookbook for Beginners or Experts!,
This review is from: Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms (Paperback)
I was very new to the concept of freezing meals, and making meals ahead of time. This book has very clear directions and made it very easy for me to understand. Each recipe includes the necessary extra directions for 'day before' work and freezing instructions. I would highly recommend this book if you are new to meal planning!
Also, there is a great variety of meals that you can use for breakfasts, family dinners, parties, or potlucks!

Wonderful Cookbook with Easy recipes,
This review is from: Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms (Paperback)
I love this cookbook! My problem isn't that I work or don't have enough time, its that I have an 18 month old (who is a job in and of herself) and a picky husband. I was excited to open up this cookbook and find some recipes that my husband will actually eat.
We tried the Mini Cheesecakes and the Baked Manicotti, both of which we loved! This cookbook has such simple and yummy recipes for the cooking impaired like me. The writer Jane Doiron also includes tips on things that you can do ahead of time or even the day before. One of the suggestions was to cut all the vegetables and to combine different ingredients them put them in the fridge. I also love that she includes ways on how to freeze and reheat the meal, which is perfect for us because we don't eat very much so we aren't wasting any food. I would recomend this to anyone!

Easy to follow recipes that taste great!,

When Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms first arrived in the mail I sat down and marked all the recipes that I knew my family would like. I marked quiet a few pages! With everything from Bacon Tomato Mini Cups, Hawaiian Cole Slaw, Chicken Cannelloni and Lemonade Cake Jane has recipes that everyone in your house will love! I never would have thought I could make something like Chicken Piccata but with Jane's easy to follow directions I did, and it was yummy. I have also made the Honey Mustard Chicken Fingers which are a great family friendly meal. You can make a large batch and take out however many you want from the freezer and cook them. When my Moms group said we would be having a cookie swap over the holidays I was delighted to find a Snickerdoodle recipe in the Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms cookbook. I doubled the recipe and was able to freeze some of them to take to my parents for Christmas.
This book is perfect for busy Moms (which is all of us!). I sure wish I had learned about this cookbook before baby number 2 was born, I would have had my freezer stocked with delicious meals. I can't wait to try out some more of the recipes and provide my family with great food that doesn't break the bank or take all day to make. |
