Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This updated version of the million-selling 1950s cookbook series (Scott Goodfellow’s mother wrote the first one in 1958) shares over 200 recipes that cooks can assemble ahead of time and put in the oven right before serving. The range of time between "now" and "later" varies—Burgundy Mushrooms can be frozen for up to three months; Garlic Blue Cheese Dressing may be refrigerated up to one week; New Orleans French Toast may be refrigerated up to one day. While the recipes have presumably been modernized to jibe with today’s tastes and available ingredients, they do have a 1950s feel. There are a good number of casseroles (e.g., Chicken and Spaghetti; Potluck Ham; Shrimp and Cheese), as well as such dated numbers as Beef Brisket; Yummy Fruit Dressing (which calls for Marshmallow Fluff, mayonnaise, ginger and orange zest); and Eggnog Mousse, a molded holiday dessert. Still, for modern readers who are pressed for time, this cookbook delivers.

I recenty spent a long week-end with close freinds and we had several of the recipes from this book. They were delicious and easy to prepare. I would recomend this book to anyone who entertains and likes to spend time with their guests, not in the kitchen. It's a winner!

I flipped through 'Make It Now, Bake It Later' at a bookstore and I really liked what I saw. There is a good variety of recipes along with fun introductions and detailed heating instructions. Not all of the recipes are freezer recipes, but those that are not will keep in the fridge for a few days. I almost bought this book at the bookstore, but I'm glad I waited ($14.95 there vs $3.00 here).

This is my very favorite cookbook and I could not get by without it. I wish there were more since I have made just about everything in it many times. Especialy good for entertaining, make everything ahead and no stress! Great food! I cannot rave enough about it. Have been cooking for 40+ years. My Mother used the first one which I have also. Wonderful gift for bride or friend or anyone who is in the kitchen. Love it!!

This book was given to me as a gift so I new nothing about it, when I flipped through it I was pleasantly surprised at how good and easy the recipes sounded. Diving right in I started with the white chicken chili, it was fantastic and I have made it several times now. There are so many recipes in this book that are now our families favorite recipes! Great Job!

Wonderful recipes from the time when you used mayonnaise, sour cream, and heavy cream and condensed soups without worrying about "health issues". It is fun to just have a delicious taste of those times. Recipes are clear and easy to follow. Yum-yum.
