Made it Beautiful,
By Bobbi (South Dakota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Make It Beautiful (Audio CD)
Sara Lee's album "Make it Beautiful" is truely what it says, beautiful. Lee has managed to combine rolling vocal melodies with sharp musical riffs to create a wonderfully unique sound. The music flows into your ears, throughout your body, reaches your heart, and wraps its smokey quality around your soul. Sara Lee has created a masterpiece with "Make it Beautiful".

Ani's bassist goes solo.,

This review is from: Make It Beautiful (Audio CD)
Sara Lee is a very distinguished bassist playing for the likes of Ani DiFranco, the Indigo Girls, the B-52's, and Joan Osborne. On her first solo album, you can hear her very soothing voice along with her very prominent bass playing. Having two songs penned by Ani DiFranco and having her appear as guest back-up vocals was very nice. Her songs are very laid back. This album isn't exactly the greatest one in the world but very good nonetheless. She's excellent live (that's how I first found out about this album) so for that reason you should buy the album and get ready to see her perform these songs live.

Gang Of Four Veteran Sounds Neat!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Make It Beautiful (Audio CD)
This is one of the nicest surprises of 2000. Lee was an important part of what made the Gang of Four a memorable band. As a hardcore fan, her work with the B-52s and Ani DiFranco has always been excellent. But you sometimes don't know a performer until you've heard their solo stuff. This is funky, delightful, and also touching. Only Lee would have songs like "Grace," "Traffic" and "All Cried Out," but the whole record is a special trip by somebody who's probably going to be a star now on her own. This is already a favorite to take when I'm out driving.

Great New Music,
By Zach (Logan, UT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Make It Beautiful (Audio CD)
Sara Lee's debut is all that a listener could expect from a first album and more. Her long experience as a bass player with everyone from Gang of Four to Ani Difranco is evident in the songs on this album, as they are well thought out, powerful, and full of great bass lines. Her unique brand of funk-pop is refreshing, new, and sure to draw the listener into whatever song may be playing. The songs on the album give the listener both a chance to contemplate and an opportunity to dance. With strong songwriting and ever stronger musicianship, 'Make it Beautiful' is a gorgeous offering, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the music of James Brown, Ani Difranco, or even the Indigo Girls.
