I always held out that his second album, "Blue Desert" was his best, but this one is even better.

I stumbled on Marc Jordan one day in the early 90s when I listened to a song called "Coronation Street" that was played by an alternative radio station located at private university. Searched high and low for the release and finally found it on "Reckless Valentine." After one listen, I fell in love with Marc Jordan. Since then, I have had an impossible time finding any music by Marc Jordan through conventional brick-and-mortar stores, but thank goodness for Amazon! Make Believe Ballroom is wonderful! While there are many talented musicians in the marketplace, I would rather listen to 10 minutes of Marc Jordan than 24 hours of someone else! His style may be a bit mellow for some, but not moi!

If you enjoy Marc Jordan and do not already own Reckless Valentine, buy it. There are gems like "Back Street Boy" (more uptempo than most of his songs), "Little Lambs," "Waiting for a Miracle," "Must Have Left My Heart," "Coronation Street" and "I Held On Too Long." You won't be disappointed.

I only knew Marc Jordan's 'This is how men cry' album and I loved it. But 'Make believe ballroom' is a Masterpiece - the Music, outstanding, wrenching collection of songs that just capture my soul. This is the Music I search for - and it takes so much time to find it. When you hear it, you can't get away from it. It's just It - like the passionate love.

It's one of my beloved albums. It will be in my heart forever - its mysterious blend of the fog of big cities and bohemian places will be never fully discovered. All the songs just possess soul and it's amazing, how each of them is so perfectly arranged.

These songs just tell the story and create them. Just close your eyes and listen to it...

I won't say a lot, as other reviews here have beaten me to it. This guy is as good as it gets. I first heard him on a record called "Mannequin" back in the late 70's, an unbelievable debut produced by Gary Katz who produced Steely Dan's first seven albums. I have followed him since, which has been harder and harder to do. I always held out that his second album, "Blue Desert" was his best, but this one is even better. A great artist at absolute full maturation..."When Rita Takes the A Train" may be the best song he has ever written and one of the best I have ever heard. I also wish "this pain would just go away, I wish that dogs had wings". The slithery groove of "Shot Down My Heart", the sweeping majesty of "The Best Part of My Life", a gorgeous love song. This guy is a real artist..."Tears of Hercules", "Lulu the Acrobat"...unbelievable melodies, lyrically superior, fantastic arrangements and instrumentation. Find it and buy it. Get any of the other albums you can find too. "This is How Men Cry", Reckless Valentine", "Cool Jam Black Earth", "Hole In the Wall" the ones I mentioned above, "Lunch at Allan's". This guy will redefine how you think about music...he is jazz, pop, rock, folk, other genres, and yet he is none of those things too. A seamless blend of all things good about music, with great songs front and center.

Whether you know it or not, you've likely heard Marc Jordan's songs before. "Rhythm of My Heart" or "Charlie Parker Loves Me" covered by Rod Stewart. "Same Mistake" covered by Cher. "Fall from Grace" covered by Amanda Marshall.

But for my money, I'd rather listen to Marc Jordan sing his own songs. There's a depth, a grit, a soulfulness that just doesn't come across when his tunes are covered by others.

This album is excellent, though not as good as Reckless Valentine. It does have much the same feel. I don't know why Mr. Jordan decided to put three cover tunes on this album ... I can't imagine he wants for his own material, but who knows ... ?

For me, the highlight is "When Rita Takes the 'A' Train" -- alone worth the cost of the disc. When I first heard this song, I sat down and repeated it until I could perform it myself. That's never happened before.

If you like Jazz, Pop, AOR or just appreciate good vocals or exemplary songwriting, you'll enjoy hearing from this an artist who's still at the top of his game.
