My 5 year old received these for Christmas with hopes that he wouldn't want to use my tape to make his forts, planes, etc out of cardboard. Within a few weeks at least half of the nail shaped end have broken (we are poking a hole with the saw first). They are very weak. If they get any twisting or bending, they break right off and have to be thrown away. At the price I paid for this pile of plastic, I would have expected it to be more durable. The hinges seem strong and have done well.

My husband has said that they are just zip ties, and when they all break, we'll just get some zip ties to use with the round attachment, which seem to be lasting well. That might be a suggestion for others with a similar problem.

This is a brilliant idea, and I was excited to get it for my son because he's always turning boxes into spaceships, cars, etc. It was a birthday gift and he wanted to start creating right away, but the blue pins break and he's becoming frustrated! The plastic is too brittle so the pin stem snaps right off. I've watched him and he's not doing anything wrong. He's even made holes with the end of the cardboard saw, but when you put the pins through thick cardboard and try securing other items...watch out. We've had a lot of them break and I'm not sure I want to spend money to buy more junk.

We have been playing with the MakeDo for about 6 months and can't say enough good things about it. My son is 4 and we make cars and fire trucks and rockets, etc together out of our garbage/recycling. Paper plates become steering wheels and tires, egg cartons become control panels- it is awesome! It is best enjoyed with other children - we have used it several times for play dates and play parties, and ALL the kids go nuts over it. Supervision is required. You can deconstruct the creation and reuse all the MakeDo pieces. You have to squeeze the bendy part, and the connector tail will release (if you just force them apart, the tail will break). My 4 year old can connect the pieces, but is not able to take them apart by himself. It isn't a big deal because he is mainly interested in building things.
Overall, I am crazy about the MakeDo, and have just bought more sets to give away for birthday presents.
