Too Much Slang,
By Ess P. "XOXO Ess" (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Make It Happen: The Young Mommy Guide To Creating A Career You Crave (Kindle Edition)
Pro's - 1. It was very resourceful and it was a good read. I think any new mother can benefit from this book, whether you are a young, old, single, married, etc.2. I love that it was a book specifically targeted towards young mothers, I have yet to come across another one for that specific audience. Con's - 1. It seems like this book, which was originally an e-book, was literally copy & pasted into whatever template is used for books, and then published/printed. It has the format of a word document, with hyperlinks & such, which is just tacky honestly & hard to read. 2. The usage of slang is fine, but at times it was over-done. She can reach a wider audience if she was a bit more professional in her tone of voice. All in all, it was a good purchase. But I feel like I can't recommend it to too many people, because the constant use of slang will throw some of my friends off.

A Right on Time Read!,

This review is from: Make It Happen: The Young Mommy Guide To Creating A Career You Crave (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed reading this book and I can really relate to Tara¡¦s story. I am a wife, mother, full-time employee, adjunct college instructor, AND beginning a doctorate degree program this September. This book was ¡§right on time¡¨ in providing excellent advice on balancing out a career and motherhood, as well as life in general. Although I am not currently in the career position I want to be, I am now confident that with hard work and patience I will succeed in my career goals. The ¡§side-hustle¡¨ resource listing was exceptionally helpful and upon reading the tutoring suggestion I was instantly reminded of my side-hustle of being a part-time adjunct professor. I would love to see Tara add part-time adjunct college instruction as a ¡§side-hustle¡¨ because believe it or not you only need a bachelor¡¦s degree at minimum to instruct at most community colleges. Most universities may require a master¡¦s degree at minimum but if you have a doctorate degree expect a nice bonus in pay. With a lot of community colleges and even major universities delivering their academic content via online courses, this is becoming a popular career trend for those looking for flexible part-time employment. I have done online part-time adjunct college-level instruction for a year now at my alma mater; I really enjoy it because of the flexibility (teaching online), the additional income and most importantly making a difference in the lives of my students. You may also find K-12 and secondary level schools are also entering the world of online teaching (i.e. Florida Virtual School) I am excited and look forward to additional series releases from Tara º

A Manual for the Future,

This review is from: Make It Happen: The Young Mommy Guide To Creating A Career You Crave (Kindle Edition)
I love the conversational tone of this book. It's a manual for moving forward as a mom and career woman -- advancing from the static working world to something more exciting and better for your family. While Jefferson aims this book at young moms, it would be great for ANY mom who wants to change it up and take control of her income and enjoy her home life.

This series is going to be amazing. I can tell just by the first book. She gives great advice and tons of resources. She is not talking at you, but to you. I felt like she was talking to me personally. YOu can tell this book was written to help people not to "make a dollar" The book is very organized. I felt empowered when I was finished, she made me feel proud to be a young mother. Young mother trying to find you groove in the work force, or older mother trying to transitioning to where you want to be in life this is a MUST read. I just wish it was a little longer, she left me wanting more.

I was inspired, motivated, and empowered just reading the first chapter! I was truly amazed at how genuine Tara was with her advice, as well as how much the information presented related to my current situation. Tara had the answers to every question, concern, fear, and excuse that I have had about beginning a new career. I can not wait for the second book!

WOW! This book was one of the best books I've read in a long time. At first, I didn't think anything would apply to me since I am a single mother, awaiting disability, also known as unemployed. Getting the book simply to help a friend out, it surprisingly ended up helping me out as well. I thought the book would just be geared towards moms who are already working and how to take what you do to the ultimate level and although a great deal of it does give many examples on how to shine and stand out with your work, the author also touches those who are in situations like mine. Small steps you can take, no matter the circumstance, to take your passion and make it work for you. My favorite part of the book was the money saving tips. Very simple, yet practical things, that you could do to save money. While reading through, I kept saying, "Oh yeah, that's a good idea. Duh, why didn't I think of that?! Hmmm, I never would have thought of doing that..." and so on. Homegirl teaches you how to save money, and let's you in on ways you can make it as well. It's a win-win with this book. Now that I'm finished with it, I'm super anxious for her to release the next book in her series. I have a sense they are only going to get better and better!Another thing I loved about the book is the tone the author had throughout. She didn't come off as some young, know-it-all, but rather like she was speaking on my level. Like we are just sitting back at Borders, discussing things with one another. Very easy going tone and flow throughout the whole book! I still sit back, totally amazed about how much insight the author has and the resources were amazing. It was pretty neat to have various links throughout the book, so that you could follow along and actually see what she is talking about. It was great since I am a visual learner and I loved the tools provided for us throughout the book as well. All in all, the book is amazing and I recommend it to everyone, not just young mothers. I can guarantee it will be the best $5.99 you could ever use to invest in your future. Not many successful people are willing to share their tricks of the trade. Tara gave you the blue print, now all you have to do is Make It Happen!

What I am most impressed with is how a young mommy has amassed so much impressive knowledge. If only us older mommies had learned it so fast. My Favs are the money-saving tips. Great in these days and times of saving! This is a helpful guide that is also entertaining to read, and I think anyone who follows these tips can definitely "Make it Happen."
