More About the Author

Kirsten Oliphant wrote her first novel in third grade on the colored pages of a Hello Kitty notebook. After getting her MFA in Fiction from UNCG, she writes novels that she may finish sometime when her four small children go to college.

In the meantime, she blogs at Kirstenoliphant.com, plays roller derby, starts small kitchen fires while creating tasty food, and writes christian non-fiction. Her husband is a youth pastor who would love to be a professional ultimate frisbee player. They live in Houston, where it is humid, but on the plus side, there are alligators.

I had the distinct privilege of previewing Kirsten's devotional booklet before it was published. I was and still am very impressed with how she used the format of Old Testament prophecies followed by the appropriate New Testament fulfillments. Her enlightening and summarizing comments and questions are biblically and theologically sound and I find them refreshing, relevant and helpful. Because she leans heavily upon God's Word for the content of the devotional, it can be used year after year with a family because Scripture never becomes stale and boring. Way to go Kiki!

A fantastic devotional which starts in Genesis with the fall of man and ends with the birth of Christ and the renewal of all things. Oliphant provides a unique glimpse of the scriptures which ties in the fulfillment of Old Testament prophesy when Jesus ultimately enters into human history. We are able to see that All scripture is leading to Christ's birth, perfect life and ultimate death to atone for the sins of the world! Make Him Room is a great reminder of Jesus' love for His people and the perfect gift for the season!

Finally, a refreshing devotional that I can use with my family during the Advent season. So often, especially now days, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season and forget that Christmas is really about. Kirsten does a great job of reminding us, through the use of Scripture (old and new testament), that Christmas is all about God becoming man to save his creation and what that should mean to us.

The questions provided at the end of each daily reading are a nice bonus for those of us who want meaningful discussion with our family's. So not only does this book help in getting us closer to our Savior it also gets us closer as a Family, talk about a win/win! Overall, I was very very pleased with this book and I know it will become a part of our Family tradition for years to come.

The first devo sold me on doing the whole book this year.

I have 4 boys ages 4-12 and I just bought this in hopes of finding an advent devotional that I could do not just with my wife, but the whole family. This one is perfect for that purpose and I am excited about the coming 25 days of spending time, thanks to Mrs. Oliphant, digging into the true meaning of this Christmas season.

Oliphant includes everything you need so your not spening time (while the kids are getting restless) looking up all the verses. Truly a enjoyable way to spend time in acticipating celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior.

What I love the most about this devotional is how Kirsten uses manageable offerings each day. What she does so effectively is digging deep but in a way that's easy to digest. I've really enjoyed spending some quiet time alone each day and reading the passages, the connections and thinking about the questions she poses. She also goes places with her connections that raise points on things I've never thought about. Her take on Scripture is very fresh, and applicable to our every day life with Christ. I haven't shared it with my children much (they're 5 and 18 months), but I could see how amazing this would be to share with the tweens and teenagers in your family. Fantastic devotional!

I downloaded this book on the recommendation of a friend and am so glad I did. Promises followed by how they were fulfilled which lead into discussion questions. I bought this intending to use it as a devotional for myself but only a few days in I find myself wanting to share it with my children. There is even a child-friendly discussion question available everyday. What a way to be reminded, especially with the commercialization of Christmas, what the true meaning of the season is. Thank you for such a wonderful book.

I had been looking for a good devotional that would bring the Old and the New Testaments together for a while, and I am so grateful for this book! Not only it connects the two, but it also prompts important questions and makes you think about the true meaning of Christmas. It actually made me write my thoughts down, which I rarely do. Perfect to prepare your hearts for Christmas and to regain your focus on what matters the most - our Lord!
