5.0 out of 5 stars The One That Started it All.
This is the debut album of Keith Sweat, which not only helped introduce the genre New Jack Swing, but it also made him a veritable fixture in r&b. Nobody will ever give Sweat points for vocal range, but he makes the very best of what he has, and it serves these tracks well. The opener, "Something Just Ain't Right," is one of his most underrated songs, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Breakthrough album...
Keith Sweat's debut album opened up the floodgates for the New Jack Swing sound with the hits "I Want Her" and "Make It Last Forever". When this album dropped back in 1987, it was one of the most creative breakthroughs of the time. "Make It Last Forever" (a prom theme favorite) still gets major play on radio and still hasn't lost any of...

This is the debut album of Keith Sweat, which not only helped introduce the genre New Jack Swing, but it also made him a veritable fixture in r&b. Nobody will ever give Sweat points for vocal range, but he makes the very best of what he has, and it serves these tracks well. The opener, "Something Just Ain't Right," is one of his most underrated songs, and it's just as good as any of his more popular singles, including his Top Ten smash, the New Jack flavored "I Want Her." He also does a formidable cover of "In the Rain," and the title track, a duet with Jacci McGhee, is a ballad still good enough to give me goose pimples. Always consistent and rarely giving into trends, Keith Sweat is the Energizer battery of r&b: he takes a licking, but he still keeps on ticking.

I have been a fan of Keith Sweat since I was 12 years old and now I am 21. This is his best album to me. My favorite song is right or wrong way. Everytime I hear it on the radio I scream. This is a very good album to buy. Keith Sweat is the only man that can touch my heart through his music. And I love him to death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keith Sweat got it right the first time, best album!, June 24, 2006

The whole album is butter. A lot of babies were probably made off of this. The difference between Make it last Forever and the rest of Keith career is that he macking on this album. The rest of his career he resorted to straight begging to get the cooch. Personal favorites are every song for real. This is an R&B slow jam standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish Make It Last Forever, would last forever @}->---, March 17, 2006

Make It Last Forever is probably my second favourite R 'n B song ever (after My My My). It is such a beautiful song and so is this entire album. I've been a fan of Keith's from the beginning and I still go back to this. I Want Her is probably the next best cut on the album, but in reality - it's all good. This is the King of New Jack and nobody does it better than Keith. Make It Last Forever should be in every r'n b fan's collection. I had to go and re-buy this on cd because the cassette I had was wearing thin because after each time Make It Last Forever finished, I'd keep winding it back. I highly recommend this cd. Amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excllent Debut That Has Yet To Be Topped, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Make It Last Forever (Audio CD)
As a DJ my favorite type of music hands down in New Jack Swing. In the years from 1987-1888 it seemed that every New Jack Swing CD that was released was A-1 and was the type of disc you could put in and let ride out to the last song. Produced by Teddy Riley, Mr. Sweat Debut contains the still classic club bangers I Want Her & Don't Stop Your Love as well as the ESSENTIAL slow jams Right & Wrong Way, How Deep Is Your Love, Make It Last Forever and the Dramatics cover In The Rain. It's no seceret that Sweat isn't the best singer but with his classic debut he earned his place in the New Jack Swing Hall Of Fame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phat, November 13, 1999

This CD is THE Original 12 play for Afro Gen-X'ers. Without a doubt, this is the only CD you can bump in your car or Jeep, play at a jam or just chill to on the edge of the Millenium that near gets old. Banging rhythms, the notorius 808 kick drums really were way before their time. This is the AWESOMEST CD on the face of this planet. This is THE CD every soul and R&B collector needs in their collection. By far, his awesomest work of art yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars a very good cd, September 2, 2002

Back in the late 80s, i was checking out this tape called "keith sweat: make it last forever", and it sounded pretty good. keith sweat lays down some smooth senous tracks on here and when i first heard this cd, i was impressed. all the songs are good. "Something just aint right" brings back memories of me when i was in high school, "right and a wrong way" is some slow song. if you was in high school around 87 or 88, this was the slow song you could slow dance with your girl at your prom. and the title song "make it last forever" a christmas light, skating rink, bell ringing song is good too. i heard that song back in 87 at the skating rink and that's what made me get the tape ( i now have the cd )

i like these beats because they're strong. i think this is the best cd he ever made. "tell me its me you want" is my least favorite song cuz he sounds sorta diffrent and his voice isnt as strong. "in the rain" is a very good slow song. listening to this song made me like that song better than the original.

"i want her" is a ok song, but it's not so good. "how deep is your love" is a freakish, hornish sounding song, very good. the beat is so good and so strong, it makes donnell jones look weak.

keith sweat, in my opinion is a very good singer. i dont have all his other cds, i just only have this one. i think the ones he made afterwords werent as good as "make it last for ever" i give this cd two thumbs up. good job, keith!

I am not the biggest Keith Sweat fan but this is by far the best LP he put out. Standout songs include "Right and a Wrong Way", "How Deep is Your Love", "I Want Her", "In the Rain" and the title track. This a New Jack Swing classic by perhaps the genre's best singer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Teddy's break through project......, November 18, 2005

This review is from: Make It Last Forever (Audio CD)
I know this is Keith's Album, but for me it was an early introduction to the GREAT early work of Teddy Riley, the father of New Jack Swing.
I have just purchased this CD via Amazon, and in his thank yous at the end of the booklet, no mention is made to Teddy's contribution(Most of the songs on display, were either co-written co-produced or both by keith and Teddy)
Anyway, onto the CD. Considering this was releashed in 1987, this CD still sounds fresh, and vibrant 18 years later. I would also go as far as saying that this is Keith's most complete work.
This could because a) This was a debut album, with a new style, particulary on the up tempo tracks b)There is a good mix of uptempo well written tracks, along side Keith's soon-to-be notorious slow jam cuts.
The majority of ths album falls in this category. Of these, 'Right and a wrong way', 'How Deep is your Love',are particular favourites.
Being a New jack swing nut, it's with the up, to mid tempo where this album resonates with me, with the stand-out being 'I want Her'.Even today this cut sounds fresh, exciting and vibrant. The other stand out up tempo joint, would be 'Don't stop the Love', which is a good way too end the CD.
Lastly, a very important often neglected part of this album is the contribution that Jacqi Mcghee makes. As well as backing vocals, she is the female lead on: the title cut. Great voice
