Book Description

Fresh from catching his lover in bed with another man, Dominic Scotto is grabbed off the street and taken hostage. The identity of his kidnapper is a mystery, what the man wants, though, not so much. Shackled and trapped, Dominic’s resilience is put to the test as his captor carries out a carefully crafted plan to divest him of his secrets.

With the heir to the Scotto empire naked and bound before him, the man known as Smoke will do whatever he must to get the answers he seeks. Amid a firestorm of anger and distrust, between pain and pleasure, two men reach for each other in the darkness, but it’s not over yet. Under the sun’s harsh brightness, Smoke remains elusive, a man without a face or name, and Dominic is still a target mired in secrets.

4.0 out of 5 stars MACABRE: THIS TREE DOES NOT GROW IN BROOKLYN!!! October 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
OMG!!!!! CLOCKWORK ORANGE!!! What a scary ride Ms. Ashton has taken me on. This psychological thriller was very dark, sometimes brutal, but I was captivated. The writing was raw, gritty and spellbinding. I could not put this book down. Although this is not the kind of books I read, I was intrigued by the brilliant storytelling. Ms. Ashton is a stellar author and as much as I did not want to enjoy the story, I did.
It was like witnessing an accident on I-95, you know you shouldn't look, but you just can't help yourself. Smoke is such a badass, with a heart of glass. Ms. Ashton is very good at writing bad boys, the kind you root for. I loved Smoke and I'm glad he was written as three dimensional and not as just *a gun for hire*. I'm also happy that Dom got his HEA. Love, love the ending....

5.0 out of 5 stars wickedly crazy & erotic story October 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I've just finished this book, after buying it 4 hours ago. Let me tell you, Ms. Ashton has a real talent to write bad boys, very very bad boys. If you thought the antiheroes in her other novels were tough and rugged, you ain't see nothing yet. This is the tale of two flawed, damaged characters who, in spite of being caught in the middle of an awful situation, manage to fall in love and in the process, one of them recovers his humanity. The story is OTT and quite improbable, but its written in such a way that I forgot the implausibility of it. Beware, this is not a sugary, fluffy lurve affair. Particularly the first half of it isn't for the faint of heart. But if you are fond of gritier stories and not afraid of one assassin or two, run to get it. And of course, last but not the least, the sexy times are smokin' hot!

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic January 2, 2014

I have two books by this author, this is the third one. I can't keep it. It is just a rehash of her previous books. It barely has a story line. Porn at it's best. I am very disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced, sexy, emotional and tender November 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
A fast-paced, sexy, emotional and sometimes tender romp through the damaged psyche of two men who complement each other through their own flaws and deep desires.

Dominic Scotto is heartbroken, having walked in on his lover with another man. A man he'd thought was out of his boyfriend Wes' life for good. Then things get even worse. He's knocked unconscious and wakes up bound to a chair with what looks a psychopath ready to carve him up.

Smoke is an assassin--a very well-placed, well-respected assassin, but still a killer. And Dominic is his next target. Smoke wants some answers from Dominic about his father's empire and he's no averse to using violence and coercion to get them. But the son of the father has nothing to give. Instead he has to watch as he's slowly cut and sliced by Smoke in his efforts to draw out what he wants to know.

Then things get a little...awkward. Smoke begins to realize that Dominic isn't all that averse to the torture he's inflicting, and in fact, it's having quite an effect on the young man. From that point on, things spiral out of control, certainly out of Smoke's as he struggles to come to terms with the conflicting feelings he has for Dominic.

It's gritty, sexy and violent in some parts, as the two men face each other down, both with their own needs and desires, hot passion flaring and taking over as the walls each have built around themselves come tumbling down.

The book is written well, the characters fleshed out so that you get to understand them and what makes them tick. If you fancy a bit of violence, cruelty, family drama and justice, ending with the culmination of these two men finding each other again, then you'll love this story.
