5.0 out of 5 stars New Author, Great Find
"Make Me a Match" is funny, romantic, interesting--a great read. This new author is definitely on my keeper shelf. I'm looking forward to her next book. One of the great things about this book is the dialogue. The characters are real people with real thoughts--they're sweet, loving, smart, and funny. "Make Me a Match" is a great find for any romance lover.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Match Here!
I couldn't even finish this book. The characters were so thin and flat I could not begin to suspend disbelief to get into this book. I think Ms. Holquist had some great plots, but need to work on the dynamics between her characters..

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment with some ah has, September 4, 2006
This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
Make Me A Match is certainly fun to read and entertaining. I love the idea of knowing your one true love and how that might turn out. Ms. Holquist is a remarkably accomplished writer for this to be her first novel. As another reviewer commented, what I liked best were all the interesting "ah-has" about gypsies, about life, about love and the tangled relationships we often have to unravel or reweave while still draming of true connection, affection and devotion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that has it all!, August 31, 2006

This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
I totally enjoyed this book!

It was funny, and moved along briskly, with a page turning and surprising plot. And educational - insight into gypsy psychology, as well as that of various ordinary people. The book taps into the universal fantasy that there is one person, in all the world, who is your soul mate, your one true love. And he may be dying. But he doesn't know who the heck you are, and you have to find him fast, and save him, and not scare him away becuase you might appear to be a psycho.

The romantic scenes were original, to say the least. Slowly building and culminating with a tryst in the cosy dwarf house of a mineature golf course - I would bet the farm that's never been written before. A satisfying read - I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make Me a Match, September 18, 2006
This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
During Cecilia Burns' engagement party, her sister Amy unexpectedly shows up. Cecilia has not seen her sister in ten years. Cecilia belongs to a family of gypsy's. Amy embraces it and Cecilia does not, she prefers to lead a more sedate life. Amy has the psychic ability to know anyone's one and only true love and she has arrived to tell Cecilia that Jack is not her true love, that Finn Concord is, and he is dying, so she needs to find him ASAP.

Fin arrives in Baltimore with his eight year old daughter Maya. They are visiting granny Trudy. Fin continues to work as a carpenter renovating an old house while Maya gets to spend time with her grandmother. Finn's wife Sally died, leaving him to raise Maya alone and Maya is desperate for female companionship so she found an ad in a magazine for a rent- a-granny.

Finn and Cecilia are not hitting it off and Amy has more at stake than Cecilia's true love, so she has enlisted Trudy and Maya to help her. As the craziness gets crazier Fin and Cecilia grow closer, but if Finn is really dying they don't have a future anyway. What is Amy up to and can Cecilia stop her before it's too late for all of them?

Make Me a Match is a funny, sexy, out of this world romp. There were several times when I thought it might not work and that made me a wee bit frustrated, but thankfully things do work out in the end. Ms. Holquist kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Everyone who reads Make Me A Match will wonder if knowing your One True Love is good or bad, but I don't think most of us really want the answer to that question! Pick up Make Me A Match for an outrageous and amusing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars endearing paranormal romance, September 3, 2006
This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
Cecelia Burns life is right on track. She is a cardiologist in a rich private practice and is engaged to marry Jack a powerful lawyer; they are renting a beautiful condo that they intend to buy. At a party they are giving to celebrate their engagement they have a gate crasher, Cecilia's psychic sister Amy who drops in to cause trouble after not seeing her sibling for a decade. She tells Jack she and Cecilia used to run cons of people in order to live and to get a good nest egg.

It is a time in Cecilia's life that she wishes to forget. To make matters worse she tells Jack she hears voices and they tell her The One True Love of the person she is talking to.. Amy lets it be known that Jack is not Cecilia's true love but Finn Concord, who is dying, is. Finn and Cecilia meet at a sporting event. Sparks fly but Cecilia tries to ignore then because she doesn't want to lose the life she has. Finn's daughter and Amy play matchmaker and when Jack finds out what is going on, he asks Amy to tell him who his one true love is. Her answer sends him out of town and bring Cecelia and Finn closer together but she fears Amy's other prediction that he is dying.

MAKE ME A MATCH is an off beat quirky and totally endearing paranormal romance in which these are three protagonists. Amy is the catalyst that keeps the action moving and readers would like to see her story told in a future book. Diana Holquist writes beautiful romance scenes that are right out of an adult fairy tale. Both Finn and Cecilia are interesting characters who have a lot of baggage from their past to discard if they want to be together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars!, August 31, 2006

Fresh and hilarious, a wonderful follow up to the best of Jennifer Cruisie! I loved Make Me a Match and thought the romance level was just right, while still allowing time for great character development. Apparently this is Diana Holquist's first book--can't wait for the next one!

The main character, Cecelia, is a successful physician who is forced to confront her less-than-distinguished past (and her true self) when her sister, Amy, suddenly reappears, up-ending her life with the possibility of True Love.

Make Me A Match engages from page one. Ms. Holquist treats readers to a delicious romance that unfolds amidst vivid scenes of Baltimore and insights into a diverse cast of characters from wine-sipping society docs to beer-swilling construction workers. The book is funny, romantic, sexy.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars more twists than a belly dancer's hips, November 9, 2006

This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
Like any good first date, Holquist's debut is full of hope, humorous false starts and charm. And like a great romance, she delivers in ways that are unexpected but somehow just right. Dr. Cecelia Burn's secrets, and those of every other character in the book, are tantalizingly revealed as the pages turn. Gypsies, con artists, construction workers and wayward sisters all collide in Cecelia's perfectly constructed life, leaving chaos and love in their wake. The final chapters leave you fulfilled and looking forward to more stories about Cecelia and her sisters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, fun read!, January 26, 2007
This review is from: Make Me a Match (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book so much that I actually sent the author an email to sing it's praises and she sent me a personal reply!
This book is the first by Diana Holquist and I can't wait for the next. I've read so many romance novels lately that they were starting to get stale and predictable but "Make Me A Match" was just different enough to keep me guessing but still had the hunky alpha male and smart, beautiful and slightly flawed heroine that I love. I would highly recommend this book for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Donovan, Susan Elizabeth Phillips & LeAnne Banks just to name a few of my other favorite authors.
