More About the Author

Social activist and serial entrepreneur Mike Mann has been proactively involved with the Internet since 1994. At that time, Mike founded and ran the ISP and web developer, Internet Interstate, until he sold the company to Verio in 1997. Mike then founded the world's largest secondary market for domain names, BuyDomains.com, which is now called NameMedia. In 2005, he sold the majority of his interest in BuyDomains.com and the Seeq.com search engine portal to Highland Capital Partners and Summit Venture Partners.

Mike is also founder of several active, successful, for-profit corporations including Phone.com, SEO.com, Skateboards.com, DomainMarket.com, Yield Software, BrowserMedia, and others. In many cases, his companies exchange resources, talent, and technologies in their never-ending quest to deliver innovative, profitable digital products and services.

To perpetuate his interest in charitable works, Mike is the chairman and founder of Grassroots.org (501c3), a global network that provides free services to nonprofits and promotes social action. Mike and his team also manage Make Change! Trust, a charitable fund that supports select 501c3 charitable organizations.

I began reading this book to see how a free book would hold up and it actually did hold up to the cliche "you get what you pay for". To me this book was just filled with too much minutiae to weed through to find any good points that were in there. I had to stop at the hole part about working 80 hours and when your competition sleeps you need to be working. Then (in honor of this book) "the last straw" for me was when the author says you need to be able to multitask, doing 2 or more things at a time, he mentions also going over work papers while your family sleeps on vacation.

In my opinion this book has a lot more of a old-school mentality when it comes to running a business and being successful.

I chose this book because it was a free book on one of the topics I have been devouring lately-entrepreneurship. I was surprised to learn that this book was written by Michael Mann, the founder of Grassroots.org, an organization that I had been assisted by in my volunteer work. In short, this book is not your "get-rich-quick" business books instead it's more of a "Here's some advice for you when you start your business book". For any person that is seeking to start their own business, this is a book you want to refer back to because it offers some real solid advice on some issues you want to reflect on your book. If you're not interested in entrepreneurship or business ownership, this book may not be the book for you.
Pros
1. Great Advice- The book starts off an inspirational note about what it takes to be the best. This is the most uncompromising part of the book. You will find bold statements that will catch you off-guard, but at the end of the day will say "Yeah, I knew that." Other books that I like (like The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure andMaking Your Life Work: How to Make Money in any Economy: How to Create a Rewarding Life (Creating Lifestyle) have similar messages, so I really liked this aspect of the book.
2. Concise- This book pulls no punches. It goes right from the beginning presenting everything that should be essential when planning your business strategy
3. Expert advice-The authors know what they are talking about )or at least really believe that they do)

Cons-
1.

This book completely changed my philosophy on work. I used to think I went to work to earn money to buy toys and eventually retire. I will totally admit: I was selfish. Mike's book made me realize that there is a bigger reason for working, to give back. The great part about it is that I don't always have to give money. I can donate my professional services to a nonprofit and help in my own way.

Of course, the business advice is great as well. I've tossed around the idea of starting my own business. I doubt I'll ever get to it, but the book has a lot of great advice. Even if you don't want to start a business, there's a lot of great information in here that you can bring to the table at your current company to help it grow. I know I'll definitely use some of the principles I learned in here to further my career.

The tips contained in this book are too commonplace to continue reading.
Some were also drastic, such as working overnight while your competition sleeps.

I decided that I would take off two stars.

One for the fact that the book needs to be formatted better, with clickable chapters, and more editing to make the book easier to browse.

The second star is for the quantity of information. This book is jam-packed with information, and could have been edited down to several shorter books. In its present form, it is a little overwhelming.

I added a star on because of the quantity of information. There is a huge amount of knowledge, and I intend to refer back regularly to this book as I build my business and make a difference in my corner of the world.

The main thing I liked about this book was that it highlights many ways to promote your business or non-profit. You can tell the author is from the East Coast from his competitive and cutting the crap attitude. It is a bit funny at times but I seriously appreciated the good marketing and PR ideas. It covers a lot of the things in business that you don't usually think about until its too late.
I've read quite a bit about Mike Mann the author and he is certainly someone who is qualified to teach on this subject. He has accomplished some incredible stuff in his life.
I recommend this book to anyone who is involved in running a business. The title makes you think it is some get rich quick book but the reality is that it gives some great, usable advice without some pitch to buy CD's or tapes!
Its worth the time to read and keeps your interest all the way to the end.

The book provides some solid, common-sense ideas for entrepreneurs to employ in identifying ideas for potential businesses, creating and building those businesses, and then some unique ways to multiply them once they are established. Packed with both fundamentals and best business practices Mike Mann has used to create his own wealth, this is a book detailing a tried and true business development plan anyone with enough common sense, gumption and commitment to apply and follow through could profit from and succeed with.

Mike Mann's motivation for writing Make Millions and Make Change appears to be built upon his desire for others to become successful businessmen and women that can and will give back to society (Make Change) through participation in charitable organizations, which is also lightly touched upon and encouraged.

I listened to it in audio form while driving. It read and sounded similar to a series of college lectures to me: no hype, all meat. This is not a get-rich-quick book, and was not written to entertain. It is a "how-to" book about creating wealth offered by someone who has succeeded at doing it.

Give it a try to pick up some new ideas, as well as remember and reinforce some you may have already heard.
