Powerful Suspense Romance,
By
This review is from: Make No Promises (Mass Market Paperback)
Taylor Travini of Travini Vineyards of California arrives in Chile to find her twin brother, Terry who has disappeared. From the time Taylor arrives in Chile, she finds herself in mega trouble. Attempts are made on her life, she is framed and jailed for possession of drugs, and it goes down hill from there. Rafe Maguire is an ex-army ranger turned mercenary who trains Chilean recruits for the army forces. Rafe has his own demons to banish and he has no time to protect this American woman who seems to have done something to have the Mafia after her, but Rafe just can't leave her to her own defenses she will end up a statistic for sure. There is sexual tension from the time they lay eyes on each other. The persistent undercurrent of sexual attraction combined with the heart pounding suspense of the story keeps you turning pages. This book has it all mobsters, drugs, espionage, terrorists, and a political coup in the making. Taylor is too stubborn and determined for her own good, and will not back down from anything until she finds her brother and proves herself to her father, something she has been trying to do all her life. Rafe is a road weary warrior, and together they are an unlikely couple, but they are a team due to circumstances and an explosive one at that. If you are looking for a thrilling suspenseful romance, this is the book for you. I look forward to more books from Charlotte Maclay.

Wow! I loved it. The adventure swept me along and left me with a strong desire to visit the southern-most tip of Chile. What a great story, excellent pacing, very well-written, great characters and a hot romance to boot. What's not to like?

Action-adventure romance with a dollop of suspense,

This review is from: Make No Promises (Mass Market Paperback)
I must let you know that I have had this book in my to-read stash for quite awhile; I am just sorry that it took me so long to finish it before now. I wish I could find other stories written by Charlotte Maclay. Except for a couple of Harlequins, this looks like the only title she has had published.
Rafe Maguire is a retired US Army Ranger earning a living training the local military in Chile on how to fight. Taylor Travini arrived in this South American country to find her twin brother, Terry, who went missing. She is not aware of anything illegal or suspicious at this point. Terry loves to photograph animals and sometimes lets time fly. Taylor has been known to come to his aid before but soon realizes that her twin may be in more trouble then either realizes. The locals are hiding things from her and someone is trying to get her to leave at any cost, including killing her. Rafe sees Taylor for the first time in a seedy bar asking questions and realizes she is in danger. From here on out the action escalates. Taylor lets him help her out of this jam and soon they become partners in connecting the dots between the Chilian mafia, some terrorists and high-ranking political officials. What has Terry got himself into? This is the question Taylor needs an answer to besides locating him so they can go back home. At thirty nine years of age Rafe has wondered recently how he can continue his job at his current pace. Rafe lost his young wife and child three years before and he has had quite a time letting his personal life move on. Taylor is nothing like his deceased wife in looks or actions. Of course there are some implausible scenes that I found hard to believe that Rafe and Taylor could make it through but in this respect the book read like a James Bond novel; things happened to keep the action flowing. The chemistry between Rafe and Taylor was great. Actually, I could see this book being developed into an action-romance movie with a smart director. All things considered, if you like a quick read and can get past some of the crazy things that happen to our hero and heroine, you should like Rafe and Taylor's story. The conclusion to their adventures makes sense so give this book a try. I think you will be glad you did.

exciting romantic suspense thriller,
This review is from: Make No Promises (Mass Market Paperback)
Thirty years old Taylor Travini leaves her family owned California vineyards to search for her missing twin brother Terry last heard from six weeks ago in Chile. Terry told Taylor he was heading in country to photograph some local flavor. However, everyone she talks with in Santiago including the police deny her sibling was ever there. She is even set up to be forced out of the country during an incident in which her doorman is murdered and her backpack is filled with cocaine.
Retired US Army Ranger Rafe Maguire earns a living training the local military how to fight. When he sees the danger Taylor is in he comes to her rescue. Soon he finds saving her life has become his day job, bit nothing will prevent the courageous Taylor from continuing her quest even except concern for the soldier she loves. MAKE NO PROMISES is an exciting romantic suspense thriller that grips readers from the start to the finish because of the courage of the heroine though at times her actions are foolish and put her too much at risk. The story line is fast-paced as Taylor refuses to leave though the cops, the druglords, the mercenary, and seemingly everyone else in South America scream Yankee go home. As insane as her antics are, fans will enjoy her Chilean romp to include the hunk who loves her. Harriet Klausner |
