5.0 out of 5 stars Funky, Get Down, Go Go music! HOT!
The first song I heard of Liquid Soul's was Threadin' the Needle. I literally jumped out of my seat and exclaimed, "Oh, my GOD"! I was greatly impressed the moment I heard it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Party band with a reggae edge
While this CD does hop with playfull live instrumentation, I was dissapointed with the reggae overtones. I wouldn't classify this as Acid-Jazz, but more the kind of live music you'd here at some outdoor festival. Not the best for Modernists, but fun none-the-less.

The first song I heard of Liquid Soul's was Threadin' the Needle. I literally jumped out of my seat and exclaimed, "Oh, my GOD"! I was greatly impressed the moment I heard it. It was powerful and exciting. All the musicians in this band are extremely tallented. The bands blend, style, and beat are very unique, even in the acid jazz world. The combination of jazz, funk, rap, and the distorted guitar rock sound make Liquid Soul the wonderful combination that they are. This CD (as well as their first album) have been frequent in my CD-player and will remain that way.

I recommend this album to anyone who likes jazz, rock, funk, etc.

=)

Liquid Soul is, simply put, the best funk band out there right now. Mixing elements of acid jazz, 70's funk, latin and swing, the band is versitle and entertaining. While Dirty MF really only has one song in the cd, his vocal rhymes are a great addition to the blowing horns section and the beldning of the bass, drums and guitars. (Mars can do some amazing things with his sax.. wow...) While I personally like "Cabbage Roll" the most on this cd, almost every track is 10 star quality, and the worst one (I want you to want me) would be considered god-like to fans of rap. no matter what you listen to, you will buy this cd NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoking Jazz, March 27, 2000
This review is from: Make Some Noise (Audio CD)
Although this album has been out for 4 years now, I had to write a review. This is one of the best acid jazz albums around. Rarely is an album able to capture the energy of a band that "hits" live. But this album is as close to seeing Liquid Soul is concert as you can get without seeing them at the Double Door on Sundays. These guys deserve all of the accolades they get. They work hard at what they do and it shows in every note.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenominal!, December 16, 1999
This review is from: Make Some Noise (Audio CD)
Liquid Soul is the best example of acid jazz and improvisation out there. This album is a great blend of jazz, rap, funk and improvisation. It keeps you moving at all times, and the horns kick. And, please, if they cme to your town see them live. Very few bands put on a show like these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAD HARDCORE COOLNESS. Not often does a band sound SO good., April 26, 1999

This CD by Liquid Soul IS exactly aas Acid Jazz should sound, for those of you who have never heard of Acid Jazz, it is a style of Jazz deeply rooted in improvisation, while giving a more dancable, funky grove. This second offering by Liquid Soul is even better than the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Salt Peanuts, Salt Peanuts!, May 23, 2004
This review is from: Make Some Noise (Audio CD)
I have had the pleasure of watching and meeting Liquid Soul at the Ogden Theater in Denver, CO. They put on one of the best shows and really kept the crowd hyped. Excellent versitility in fusing Jazz, Funk and Rap. The horns section would do the Horny Horns proud. If you ever get the chance to see the Liquid Soul in concert, make it priority! You won't be disappointed.

I happily discovered this album by accident at the Borders in Chicago back in the summer of '98 and it has since become one of the more favorite offbeat albums in my collection. The music is at once funky, energetic, bouncy, and plain out fun. "Salty Peanuts/Chocolate Covered Nut" and "Cabbage Roll" are both upbeat and fun songs that show that rhyming (adequately handled by the Dirty MF on MC duty) can go quite well with a jazzy beat. There are also some great slowed down R&Bish tracks like "I Want You To Want Me", which is probably the best track on the album. Overall, this is a unique sound that any jazz fan should enjoy.
