What happened to TCTC!!!!!!??????????,
This review is from: Make This Your Own (Chi) (Audio CD)
Words cannot not express how dissapointed I am by this album!!
I LOVED See This Through, and Kick Up The Fire, but this.......this... is NOT good. Of Course this is just one dude's opinion though... I like Damage, and Homo Sapiens, and....that's about it. I am bummed to have paid so much for this(being as that I couldn't buy it in the states) Musically, this album is WAY too safe. Nothing even CLOSE to Panzer Attack, Been Training Dogs, Blind Pilots, Did Ya Miss Me, Music Box, I could go on,and on. On this album, Waiting Game is absolute pop dreck. BUYER BEWARE, if you are used to the rawness you have come to LOVE from TCTC, and the snarl of Ben Gautrey, this does not deliver the goods, or that punch. I wish that all the songs on here at least featured Ben on lead vocals like they always have in the past....They saddly do not. and Most of these songs are very boring. I give this album 2 stars for the songs Damage, and Homo Sapiens, and Head. I wish I could've given this record a better review, but I honestly Can't.

I'm not going to lie.....this album became one of my favorites within days. Great variety of styles but still holding true to the CTC we all know and love. Definitly grab it....and if you get stuck on 3 favorite songs, remember to hit shuffle once in a while and your 3 favorite will become the entire album.

What a disappointment... not anywhere close to "Kick Up the Fire",

I had never heard of The Cooper Temple Clause until I saw them open in Fall, 2003 for Jane's Addiction at a show in London. I was completely blown away, so I immediately bought their then-new album "Kick Up the Fire" and absolutely loved it, naming it the "best album of 2003" of my review of that year. TCTC has taken a LONG time to come up with a new album, but here it finally is.
"Make This Your Own" (11 tracks, 46 min.) starts off somewhat promisingly with the opener "Damage", a straight-on forward rocker, followed by the first single "Homo Sapiens", also a power-rocker. As is track 3, and track 4 and, wait, also track 5 ("Waiting Game", second single). What is going on here? FINALLY, at track 6 we get the more adventurous side of TCTC, with an excellent "Once More With Feeling". There is only one other memorable track, "All I See Is You", and that's really about it. This album is an absolute headscratcher for me. It's nowhere close to the bar set by "Kick Up the Fire" and even the band's 2002 debut album. There are a some good songs on "Make This Your Own" but overall this is a pretty big disappointment. That said, I've had the chance to see TCTC in concert a number of times and they are absolutely astounding, so if you have a chance to see them live, don't miss them! |
