Michelle's book is definitely targeted towards the "younger" reader, maybe someone in the age range of about 15-25, or someone who is just beginning to become interested in beauty and style. Make Up gives a brief overview of almost every category a girl might be interested in, from skin care to dress codes to DIY manicures to achieving the career you want. If you are the kind of person who reads beauty/style magazines, frequents Sephora or some other beauty megastore, browses style-watch blogs, etc - then most of what Michelle writes in the skin care, hair care, make up, and style sections is not going to present a lot of new information. Still, I think there's enough content and advice to each section that there's likely a few new things in here for most people, and this book is not out to be an in-depth guide.

The sections on skin care routine, make-up basics, hair & nail (& hand & foot & lips) care, fashion, and digital life were all fun & fast to read. Each left me with a few new ideas to implement, or at least reminded me of things I keep meaning to do (like I should be wearing vaseline on my eyelashes at every night and on my feet overnight once a week). The only section that didn't hold much appeal for me was the advice on job hunting and internships, but that's because it's clearly targeted towards people who are just beginning to apply for jobs without much experience in their chosen field, and I don't fall into that category. Even so, there's still worthwhile advice in this chapter, especially her work rules for everyone. On the other hand, the chapter on entrepreneurship gives really solid tips for how to succeed if you choose to start your own business. Overall, Make Up is a fun read that gives smart suggestions on virtually everything a girl might want/need to know.

As I carefully read this book I noted that highly successful people are often engaged in numerous simultaneous projects. When they seem to be subdued instead of dynamic, and nothing delightful or invigorating is happening in their lives at the moment, unbeknownst to the rest of us they are thinking up and evaluating new ideas. I believe that Michelle Phan’s life story follows this pattern, her latest endeavors are faithfully reported on social media, so you can easily check this out yourself. Although she has too many accomplishments to list here, her success is evident, she has over 7 million YouTube followers and her startup company Ipsy has $84 million in annual sales. Consequently Michelle’s ability to maintain her ranking as the number one YouTube Beauty guru by creating weekly makeup videos deserves our respect.

Michelle Phan recently released her book which is designed to help teenagers develop style and grace as well as gain a sense of how to make their own luck. The instant popularity of this book can be attributed to Michelle’s role as a YouTube starlet, because readers may be curious about the details of her rise to the top. The book also provides a lot of practical information on how to apply cosmetics, style hair, care for your skin and manicure your nails. Distinguishing herself in many ways besides her outward appearance helped Michelle succeed, she wrote this book was to share that wisdom.

Make Up by Michelle Phan is a beautiful book. I smiled as soon as I removed it from the shipping package. If you are at all familiar with Michelle Phan this should not come as a shock. Make Up was released on October 21, 2014, and is available as a hardback or eBook.

Make Up is a beauty guide as well as a style and success guide. The contents seem to be targeted towards readers in their teens and twenties, but at thirty I still loved it. There is something in this book for everyone, even those who have an established beauty routine and career.

The book begins with an introduction to Michelle's life so far. Her story is wonderful and shows how following your dreams can pay off. In the beauty portion of the book she breaks down the basics of what you need to know. She discusses skin care, makeup, hair, and nails over the course of seventy-eight pages. Somehow, Michelle seems to hit on every topic I could want in a beauty guide.

When the book moves on to fashion, Michelle instructs readers on building a wardrobe. She covers dressing for your type, for different occasions, and how to accessorize.

The "success" portion of the guide covers digital dos and don'ts, finding a job you love and keeping it, turning something you love into a career, and modern manners. This section of the book contained two of my favorite chapters. 'Digital Dos and Don'ts' and 'Modern Manners Made Easy' covered some very important topics on etiquette both online and off.

Overall, I loved Make Up and believe it is a great book. I cannot wait to read it again with all my beauty products and tools in front of me.

I received a copy of Make-Up for review from Blogging for Books. I expected the normal, ordinary photo-filled book of make-up tips. Anyone purchasing this book just for that will be disappointed. Far more than a make-up tutorial, this beautifully illustrated book covers topics such as wardrobe, finding jobs, and MANNERS!! It's sad to realize just how much this last lesson is needed.

She does a great job laying skin care, etc. routines out in easy to follow steps. It is a little intimidating to have tons of bottles in front of you and not know where to start. If I have any complaints about this book, it is that she packs a lot of information in such a little book - makeup, fashion, job interview tips, online behavior. It also seems that she hasn't really chosen an audience: is it for young teens or young adults? However, there is useful information for everyone.

I think Michelle Phan is a wonderful role model for young people. She has worked hard to be where she is now; her family sacrificed for her education. I completely respect her. I hope that the young people who get hold of this book really read her life story. Ms. Phan has become successful because of her hard-work and talent She has wonderful life lessons to teach.
