Clear Static: Unique and Fabulous!,
By
This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
As previous reviewers have pointed out, there are similarities between Clear Static andother bands who preceded them but that is all. Clear Static, especially live is more energetic, frenzied, flamboyant, pouty, sexy and fun than their predecessors. When I saw the "Make-Up Sex" video the first time I knew that I wanted to see them live. And I did! They are unique and if they aren't really BIG, I will be shocked. I haven't seen such energy at a show for a long time and fans adore them. In a word: GREAT!

CLEAR STATIC IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

Clear Static will be taking the world by storm...I saw them open for Duran Duran in Las Vegas and the crowd was just as loud for THEM as they were for Duran Duran! The music is 80s-themed but refreshingly original at the same time. The band is incredible live, and the minute I heard them I had to have their promo CD. Make Up Sex is probably the best single I've heard in a very long time. I can't remember being so excited about a track, and so anxious to hear more. Now that they are signed to a major label, the world will be blessed with the rest of their songs which are just as incredible. I triple dog dare you to pick a favorite...you'll never be able to decide. No matter what songs make it to the album, it will sound like 12 top 40 hits all packaged into one CD. Look out world, here comes CLEAR STATIC!!!

While several people will want to associate Clear Static with bands such as The Killers or The Bravery, they are on an entirely different level. I agree that the original demo of Clear Static was better, but this version is also refreshing and energetic, just like Clear Static. Clear Static captures the prized moments of the 80's, but still has modern elements. This is why they can appeal to the new, young generation, and yet they can also cater to an older generation (fans of Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, and the Cure are included.). All in all, Clear Static will be set apart from other bands (and will rise to the top!).

This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
Almost every reviewer has said it and I have to echo their sentiments:Clear Static IS the next big thing!! Buy the new CD;you will NOT be disappointed. I bought the promo mini-disk in Vegas after the Duran shows and have not taken out of my car CD player UNTIL this past Tuesday ,when the new CD came out. Now,guess what`s taken up residence in my player...you guessed it: Clear Static`s debut CD!!! Please do yourself a favor and buy this one. If they are doing a show ANYWHERE near you...GO..GO..GO!! Their live show is what started my addiction!! (don`t wait `till` you have to pay a scalper hundreds to catch them live!!..trust me;this WILL happen!)

Love these guys. Saw them open for Duran Duran last February and instantly became a fan. Their music is a wonderful mix of 80s electro and melodies while still staying fresh for today's market. However that said, this polished up version of Make-Up Sex that has been released as a single is very overproduced and lacks the innocent fun that the original had. (The original is on a 4 track EP that they released on an indie label before signing with a major label). It is watered down and really lacks a great punch.... But if you ever hear the original version you will agree that Clear Static are WORLDS better than The Killers or The Bravery or any other box you want to throw them in. They capture the true essence of great New Wave music and don't just emulate it.

Something new for once,
By Katie Evans (Encinitas, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
A friend introduced me to this band, and since the sound on my computer doesn't work, I pushed it off till later. Only, unlike many of the other bands she had showed me, she didn't just talk about them and get over it. No, she continued talking about them. Day in and day out, until I finally did hear the single "Make Up Sex". I was, to put it lightly and use a cliche, blown away. If you take the entire eighties era, add modern quality, combined with a little IMA Robot but take away the squeaky voice in return for a distinct, more suave one, add a few more electronic sounds here and there, plus a scoop of nothing you've ever heard before, and you might possibly come up with this band. While this CD itself has only one song with quite a few remixed, I would say it's still worth it. Some of the remixes play bits of the original demo that earlier fans all adore, which is always a plus. This CD is a definite must, especially for those who would like to shove it in everyone's face that they knew of them before anyone else, once they get huge (which they will.)

The Next Big Thing,
By Dave Bara "db" (Auburn, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
Clear Static are The Next Big Thing. Take my word for it. I saw Duran Duran in 1981 and knew they were TNBT a year before MTV figured it out. Clear Static will be stars on that level. Their live shows are Notorious for make up overdoses and the girls crowd in like feeding vampires to try and suck up the energy. The single is an OK start to what will be a long career. MUS is a better song live, and yes they do sound like the Killers, Bravery, Duran, Interpol, Cure, etc., but they are unique and will be making hits for a long time. Buy this single to get a taste of what's to come, then buy the album when it comes out. You won't regret a minute of the time you spend listening to Clear Static.

How can anyone think this ISN'T like the killers or the bravery?,
By
This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
I agree with MrPacDan. This guy SOUNDS very much like all the retro vocalists going around today. Maybe other reviewers have heard more by this band to prove otherwise, but based solely on this single, they are a total killers/bravery knockoff. That would be fine because those bands are awesome, but the song isn't nearly as easy to swallow as those pop/dance masterpieces. If you're into that kind of music and looking for something new, I'd suggest you check out the singles by a band called Protocol.

Like the Killers or The Bravery, but more monotonous, even with an Eddie Baez mix,
By
This review is from: Make Up Sex (Audio CD)
I wanted to like this track a lot. It's a retro, electro, techno, alternative dance track with vocals reminiscent of the Cure, which makes it comparable to the Bravery or The Killers, but the melody lacks the pop sensibilities of those other bands. The chorus is almost too catchy for its own good, and gets rather annoying. A few too many listens and you'll end up hating this one. Even a handful of good dance mixes, including one by big club remixer Eddie Baez, don't help. After a while, they all sound alike, because the song just really doesn't do anything unique or interesting. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now, I can't say this is a total winner.
