3.0 out of 5 stars Has some useful information
If you want to know more about Victoria Jackson and how she got her start, this is the book for you. She goes into her life history, and how she got started as a famous make up artist. While she may be extremely talented, this book falls short on technique on how to properly apply make up. I would suggest looking at a few other books before making a final decision on...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, basic advice for REAL women, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Make Up Your Life: Every Woman's Guide to the Power of Makeup (Hardcover)
There is a lot of information available today in magazines and books on makeup and beauty - but too often it assumes you are already beautiful, or want to be on (or beyond) the cutting edge. Victoria Jackson's book helps you focus on the basics of using make-up to enhance YOUR looks. Before & after photos of real women across a range of ages and skin tones present her techniques. I LOVED the techniques for the 2 minute, 5 minute and 10 minute face (with photos). The book is easy to read and clearly printed. Each chapter is devoted to one aspect - eyes, lips...and closes with line drawings and a step-by-step review. The only thing that would have improved the book for me is if the photos didn't jump from no make-up to complete make-up; I would have liked to see the steps in photos, as well as in text. Overall, I'm happy I bought the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just makeup - it's life, January 17, 2003
This review is from: Make Up Your Life: Every Woman's Guide to the Power of Makeup (Hardcover)
When I first saw this book, I didn't think I'd appreciate it because I already had a step-by-step makeup book and another would just be an extra. However, I was very wrong: not only is this book extremely extensive, including topics about kodak moments, hair, fitness, self-esteem etc., but it had the most amazing makeup tips! I thought I heard everything and had mastered the art of makeup application, but apparantly I hadn't. I always drag this book around with me because Victoria Jackson is *so* inspiring, and has tips for everything. EVERYTHING. It's not just makeup, it's about "making up" your LIFE. Plus, it's just a gorgeous book with great photography. If you're gonna own only one makeup book, this should be it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best I've Seen So Far, January 5, 2003

Victoria Jackson's book is WONDERFUL! The chapter 'Mirror, Mirror' greatly enhanced my self esteem. I also love Jackson's tips for foundation application. Much more detail than I've seen in other beauty books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Has some useful information, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Make Up Your Life: Every Woman's Guide to the Power of Makeup (Hardcover)
If you want to know more about Victoria Jackson and how she got her start, this is the book for you. She goes into her life history, and how she got started as a famous make up artist. While she may be extremely talented, this book falls short on technique on how to properly apply make up. I would suggest looking at a few other books before making a final decision on this one. She has an excellent primer on how to properly groom your eyebrows. Her suggestions for other types of application are very basic, and they are ideas you most likely have already read somewhere else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much chatter, July 14, 2003

This review is from: Make Up Your Life: Every Woman's Guide to the Power of Makeup (Hardcover)
I wanted to buy a GOOD book to make myself up for my wedding. Victoria Jackson loves to talk about herself... lady this is not an autobiography. And the entire USEFuLL info can put in 10 pages maximum. The information is very basic, any woman who has been using makeup and reading articles in magazines will know. No Creative looks, and even for eyes just one way of applying eyeshadow is given. Nothing about highlighting or glitter... not even the smoky eyed look.... Plus all she does is advertise her products, how everyone loves them. A book is supposed to be objective not preachy. And info on tools is very limited too.
DON'T BUY THIS ONE........
