One Man, Three Women!, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Make You Love Me (Paperback)
Latonya Williams is back on the scene with a page-turning new novel titled Make You Love Me. Main character, Tate Gibson is the cat's meow. Attractive, intelligent, barely 30 and making at least $70K annually, he is a good catch to most women and has three desperate women on his belt notch to prove it. Reared in a two-parent, middle income, loving, Christian home, there is no explanation for Tate's bad boy, wayward ways. Unless you count-his desire to sow his wild oats at all cost, his mama boy persona, or the women who so eagerly allow him to abuse them with his cheating, non-committal ways. Each of the women in his life is out to make him love only her but is he really worth it and at what price?
Meet LeQuisha, single mom of three trailed by an eternal cloud of baby momma drama and working two low-wage jobs to support her family. Tate represents her dream man the one that she will sacrifice her kids for if it means she can become Mrs. Tate Gibson. Surprisingly, LeQuisha does want to better her lifestyle and has returned to college to advance her career while she waits indefinitely for Tate to want her as much as she wants him. But, there is something about Tate that makes her do wrong when she wants to do right.
Tangela is every player's dream, fantasy women. She is young, sexy, naive, college-educated and childless and a virgin; with the latter being Tate's primary attraction to her. When he is ready to settle down, Tangela is the type of woman he envisions spending the rest of his life with. In the meantime, he has two other women to meet his sexual exploits and will go to any means to keep Tangela from finding out about either of them. What he does not realize is that Tangela might not be as innocent as she leads on to be.
Finally, there is Hurricane Carmela. Think Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction multiplied exponentially. Carmela is a prime example of why one should not play where they work. When Tate tries to break it off with Carmela, she goes for the jugular and schemes to make his life miserable and him desirable to no one but her. Carmela plays dirty and for keeps; she is proof that there is nothing like the wrath of a scorned woman as her fury reaches far and wide. Just when Tate thinks he has escaped and made a clean break, Carmela reminds him that he can run but he cannot hide.
Every woman wants to make Tate love her, but who will be able to get this party till you drop, playa-playa, commitment phobia brother to slow down and settle for a one-woman relationship? What antics will they try in order to achieve their objective of becoming Mrs. Tate Gibson?
Reminiscent of contemporary fiction novels from the 90s, Make You Love Me reminded me that even though it is a New Millennium, the dating scene -complete with games from egotistical and arrogant men and insecure and desperate women-remains the same. As such, although the storyline was a quick and easy read, with sensual plot twists and turns, the storyline was very familiar and traveled terrain already explored and written about frequently. However, Make You Love Me should do well as there is still a strong audience for books that include colorful characters that you love to hate; non-stop drama; tales of deceit, betrayal and secrets; and cheating, disrespectful and mistrustful mates to boot.

Undecided, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Make You Love Me (Paperback)
In Make You Love Me, Tate Gibson, a fine, well-educated brother, will not commit to either Carmela, who wants a husband or to LeQuisha, who needs a father for her three children. Now that Tate, a real mama's boy, has most of the finer things in life and he seems to be a real catch for any woman, he decides to become a player and work his options to the max. He and LeQuisha have an on-again/off-again relationship because of the baby daddy drama. Then he meets Tangela, a virgin, who believes that he is her soul mate and will do anything to get him. So, he continues to have sex with the other women, so he can keep his virgin pure. When he decides to break it off with Carmela, she goes berserk and causes him serious problems. After Tate disrespects her, LeQuisha decides to better herself and goes back to school and life picks up for her and her three kids. But with a sizzling combination of sexual indiscretion and female competition, Tate gets caught up at first and then realizes that being a player is not what it is cracked up to be. Afterall, Tangela seems to be the perfect trophy wife. And Tate has to make his own decision. LaTonya Williams writes a page-turning story full of love and decisions.

Who loves you baby?, June 18, 2006
This review is from: Make You Love Me (Paperback)
Tate appears to be all of that, fine, educated, built and he knows how to expertly put it down. Coming up in a house filled with love, Tate didn't officially earn his player's status until he became more established financially. Now that he's had a taste of the various pies, he wasn't ready to settle down with just one serving.
LeQuisha works as a sales associate/nail tech and is a single mother that is desperately pursuing a serious relationship. With kids, who wouldn't want a father figure and a husband? Off and on rendezvous wasn't what she was after, but decided something was better than nothing.
Tangela is a college student, pursuing a degree in journalism. Self love and respect kept her from becoming too involved with men. Instead she was waiting for marriage to bestow her precious virginity on her husband.
Tate has his hands full at work as he adds juggling to his resume. Although LeQuisha is more experienced and willing, Tangy is still in the race holding a few cards of her own. Can Tate stop thinking with the wrong head in time to make the right decisions?
In MAKE YOU LOVE ME the sex and desperation leak off of the pages. Laugh, cry, associate with and pity the frolics some people are willing to do for love then ask yourself, what are you willing to do for love?
MAKE YOU LOVE ME quickly entraps you like the daily soaps. One minute you're caught up and the next you can't wait to see how it'll end.
