So in love with Vanessa,

I have no idea why it has taken me so long to write this review.First of all, let me make a bold statement - this is easily my favorite CD in my collection, which I must admit is quite considerable in size. I have had this CD for some time now, four or five years, and have listened to it easily over a 1,000 times and have not tired of it in the least. Vanessa voice, as well as the sensual music simmering beneath it, is incredibly sexy and raw and will strip your inhibitions naked. I am embarrassed to admit that I knew nothing of Vanessa until I stumbled across one of her songs on an episode of Dawson's Creek. I know, I know, but at least it brought Vanessa's music into my life - well worth the hours of guilty pleasure spent on the WB many years back. I am a complete trip-hop freak, so I have no idea how I managed to miss out on Vanessa for so long. I have since bought all of Vanessa's CDs, including her single "A Little Bit of Pain", as well as any other Daou recording that I can scavenge from Amazon, iTunes, wherever. I was even able to procure an autographed copy of "Make You Love" from Vanessa's website a few years ago. Needless to say, it is a prized possession. Each CD easily ranks in my top 20, most in my top 10. I am sure a review of my iPod's most listened to list would confirm this fact. From Vanessa and Peter Daou's musical interpretation of Erica Jong's writings on "Zipless", to "Slow to Burn", "Dear John Coltrane", "Plutonium Glow" (thank you, Vanessa for the song "Alive" on this CD), to this immaculate offering, "Make You Love", Vanessa consistently delivers the goods. Personal favorites on "Make You Love" include "You", "A Little Bit of Pain", "Mess Around", "Make You Love", and "Juliette". This is music for the sensual life - an intimate and leisurely gathering of friends, that wandering afternoon drive to nowhere in particular, or a passionate late night session with the one that you love (or simply lust). Get a little bit of Vanessa in your life, and into your headphones. My life hasn't been the same since she came into mine. Vanessa, please keep doing what you do. Your music is a bastion in a world that rewards the offensive and talent-devoid offerings of the likes of Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson.

I really love this album! Now an album review is hard to do seeing as how everyone's taste in music is different, but I'll do my best.I never really like female artists too much especially cause they're too "romantic," or "clean cut" for me, but this girl really hits the spot that even the most savage beast can fall in love with. I like 9 out of the 12 songs on this album, thus the 4 out of 5 stars, it's not perfect for me, but I LOVE those 9 great songs! The music is soft, cool, sensual, classy, sexy but still maintains that touch of raw nature. Her voice is absolutely gorgeous. This is one of those rare CD's that realy opens up your imagination and can keep you soothed for hours. Buy it!

I applaud her for teaming up w/ Erica Jong again on 'Aphrodite' & 'Honey in a Jar.' Vanessa's own writing has improved and doesn't pale much in comparison to Jong's. 'thinking of everything, but where is the mind...thinking of air, but where is the wind...' Come on - a little high-school Zen? 'Make You Love' is much better than 'Dear John C.' & 'Plutonium Glow,' fortunately.musically, 'Slow to Burn' is her (his) best - it's only more 'commercial' because Jong didn't write the lyrics (which is ironic, per se, considering Jong is 1 of the most commercial feminist writers); lyrically, 'Zipless' is the strongest. A word/2 to describe each of her albums (a free association kind of thing): Headmusic - raw, funky (definitely get it if you can!); Zipless -classy, SEXY; Slow to Burn - sultry ('This Blue Hr.' is 1 of my favorite songs of all times); Plutonium Glow - spacey, ambient (even self-referential); Dear John Coltrane - hypnotic; Make You Love - sweet Outstanding songs on 'MYL' include 'Mess Around,' 'Show Me,' 'Lovechild,' & 'Honey in a Jar.' Play it sipping wine, driving (not at the same time), or when trying to seduce someone into bed, but buy it: you won't regret it.

I was a little (just a little) disappointed with her last two releases, Dear John Coltrane and Plutonium Glow. But this latest is fantastic all and all. She sounds better than ever. The music is a nice mixture of Slow to Burn and Plutonium Glow with a touch of jazz fusioned with the Futuristic touch of Peter's. Make You Love remains one of the romantic songs I've ever heard. Juliette is simply sexy beyond words. She's (they've) done it again! Get the CD.

Since Amazon tagged my "so you'd like to.." guide with the cover to her superb and sultry "Zipless" , I felt somewhat compelled to get more familiar with Vanessa's other work. I chose "Make You Love" as my next purchase and was extremely impressed. Her incredibly sexy breathy vocals aren't the only highlights of this album. The production of this entire piece of work is thoughtfully and painstakingly crafted... from each percusssive hit to the touches of reverb to the level of bass and where it sits in the mix. Her take on Jane's Addiction's "I Would for You" breathes interesting new life into a classic song. "A Little Bit Of Pain II"'s bassline is a groove delight entwined with luscious vocals. "You" is a perfect opener... pop-laced and upbeat. A phenomenal c.d.!!!

BREATHLESS,

When I first heard "Zipless", it was by far, one of the best cds I've ever heard, and I haven't heard anything else since then to equal or surpass it, untill now. "Make You Love" immediately picks up where "Zipless" left the listener wanting more. From the first track, " You ", a hypnotic, slick groove immediately grabs the listener's attention and sets the tempo for the rest of the cd. Standout tracks include;"YOU" , " APHRODITE" , " BITTERSWEET ", and the haunting, " MAKE YOU LOVE" . Vanessa's silky voice marinates the listener's soul and leaves the listener breathless. This cd is by far one of the best cds I've ever heard.

Enchanting and Romantic,

I am one of the biggest Vanessa Daou fans on the planet, having been introduced to Zipless by a friend in '95. Unlike the other reviewers, I think Plutonium Glow and Dear John Coltrane are both excellent CDs. The two CDs I don't care for are Head Music, which you won't be able to find anyway, and Slow to Burn, which is too commercial and bland for my taste. Vanessa stated in interviews that her relationship with MCA was deteriorating by this point and she was unhappy with the direction they were pushing her in. Make You Love is one of Vanessa's best albums. The thing about her CDs is that each one is different stylistically and in my opinion, the listener must give each CD several spins in order to fully appreciate and get the subtleties of her music. My initial reaction to Make You Love was similar to my reactions to Plutonium and Dear John. I thought, this is okay, but not up to par with Zipless. However, after a couple of days of listening , I would find the songs playing in my head while out walking or driving around town with friends or at work. Vanessa is addictive! Zipless is slick and sexy, Plutonium is cool, ambient techno, sensual at times, Dear John is experimental, hypnotic and wistful, a bittersweet love letter. Make You Love is Vanessa's most pop/commercial sounding album but it retains a degree of experimental techno savvy. Standout tunes include the bouncy "You", the sensuous "Little Bit of Pain", the slinky "Mess Around", the techno sounding "Make You Love" and "Show Me" and the haunting "Bittersweet." Other songs are interesting to a degree, though I didn't care for "Lovechild" , "I Would For You"(Vanessa doing Jane's Addiction? Okay, how about Britney Spears covers AC/DC?) or "Honey In A Jar." It's too bad Vanessa has not had better promotion and more commercial success. Her voice is not as distinctive as Sade's but her music is about ten times more unique. I gave this four stars instead of five because I don't think it is quite as unique or innovative as past efforts. That said, you owe it to yourself to get Make You Love!

I found this new CD from Vanessa in a big store in Paris, last february. It was a total surprise, and I bought it immediately to open it only at my return to my homeland, Chile. This album concentrates all that Vanessa is in music. Soft and inviting melodies, meditating and ethereal tunes and, above all, good music, that reaches the soul and the heart. You will devore this awesome album from the first 'til the last second of sound. Don't wait any longer!

Vanessa has outdone herself. Can't wait for it to become available in the U.S. Peter's elegant grooves and Vanessa's soft, sexy whisper takes electronica to the next level. Go get it.

I think this cd has to go down as Vanessa's best work. Even if you are not a fan of her music, you should have this one in your collection.
