5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Bet for Parents!
I received this book as a late Christmas present and think it should be a mandatory read for all parents, of children young and old. I'm still unclear as to what my own parents were thinking when we were growing up regarding our financial future. I know now they didn't create college funds or wedding funds or life insurance plans for us. This book shows how parents --...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good primer
This book is a good primer for anyone who feels they are a beginner when it comes to personal finance. However, even though I have been around the block a time or two with this particular subject, I still found some things that were new to me (for instance...how to tell let the grandparents know where to send money without coming across as a money-grubber). I received this book as a late Christmas present and think it should be a mandatory read for all parents, of children young and old. I'm still unclear as to what my own parents were thinking when we were growing up regarding our financial future. I know now they didn't create college funds or wedding funds or life insurance plans for us. This book shows how parents -- no matter the income level, resources, desires for the kids' futures -- can invest and save for the next generations. I like the way the author writes - it's witty and clever without being silly and trite. And the suggestions are crafted in a way that makes follow-up easy and manageable, even for a novice like myself. I highly recommend!

This book is a good primer for anyone who feels they are a beginner when it comes to personal finance. However, even though I have been around the block a time or two with this particular subject, I still found some things that were new to me (for instance...how to tell let the grandparents know where to send money without coming across as a money-grubber). For the price, I would recommend it to anyone.

This book is written in a conversational style and is extremely easy to read. I would caution that some of the suggestions appear easier than they actually are. For instance, it is theoretically possible to make someone a millionaire by saving tiny amounts of money for 50 years, but I challenge you to find a blue collar employee who is currently saving for their CHILD'S retirement. I also believe that some of the recommendations may not serve in the best interest of your children (i.e. can you trust them to be self-sufficient and motivated when you provide for every single financial need over the entire course of their lives?) Nonetheless, 90% of the ideas are sound and should be read by anyone with beginner's questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For All Parents, January 2, 2002

It's hard to find a book that's both fun and easy to read, AND worth the price 100x over, but I found one in Make Your Kid a Millionaire. It should be required reading for all expectant parents, but it's nice to know that if you didn't start saving from Day 1, you can start when your child is 8 or 10 and still have a profound impact on their financial future (and the future of your childrens' children). The title is somewhat misleading, as this book will benefit parents as much as it will benefit their children. The best $... investment I've made!

This a thoughtful, well-organized, humorous, motivator of a book. McKinley has great insight into the mind of the busy parent. His book provides a simple, no-nonsense guide to starting the investments we all know we should make for our kids.
Those hesitant to read an entire book about financial matters will be relieved to know that McKinley's sense of humor and writing style actually make his book an enjoyable read.

This has been a wonderful book for me. Kevin McKinley's writing and advice have given me the tools and the motivation to start my son's education fund, write a will, review my life insurance, and so much more. Everything is laid out in plain and concise language which makes it very easy to follow and implement his suggestions. Plus, he explains why it's so important to do these things and how to start NOW! Thanks to Mr. McKinley for writing the perfect financial planning book for busy parents.

4.0 out of 5 stars The basics made easy, September 24, 2007
This review is from: Make Your Kid a Millionaire: 11 Easy Ways Anyone Can Secure a Child's Financial Future (Paperback)
I bought the book because the title caught my eye and as a parent of a young child all the information I can gather to assist her in having a head start in life financially is worth investing $13 in a book.

I consider myself an advanced investor and was lucky to have had my parents insist that I begin investing towards retirement as soon as I started working as a teen. Therefore, I have the practical experience in the power of compound interest at work and this book provided additional reinforcement on the theory of starting your investment career as young as possible.

In my opinion every grandparent should give this book as a gift to a new parent because it hammers home the need to start when your children are young. It's written in simple enough English that everyone can follow along.

What I found useful is the advice it provides parents on how to handle money issues for teens and young adults touching upon trusts, etc.

Buy it.....your $13 investment will be rewarded hundreds of times over.

The author gives wonderful advice on taking actions to make your child a multi-millionaire. The advice is very simple and some of it just take a visit to your bank after work. Some of the information in this book changes over time but that isn't something you should worry about. This book is for people who love their kids and realize that it is much easier to make your kids and your grandkids worth seven figures than it is for you to make yourself a millionaire in your lifetime. Two thumbs up to Mr. McKinley.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT AND PRACTICAL BOOK!, October 23, 2011

I have 3 children, 22, 20 and 11 and I had always wanted to make sure they will be ok, in all areas, after I pass away. This book has opened my eyes to so many things!! It gives great advice, websites to look at, and overall very practical suggestions that I will immediately put into practice. I thought maybe it was too late (at least for my 22 and 20 year olds, but I have confirmed that one main key is to stop procrastinating and start right away!). I think this book should be a 'must' for everyone that plans to become a parent..., and also for the ones that have not done anything yet to secure the financial future of their child!

If you have young kids i'd recommend this book. Being a young parent and not having a huge amount of financial knowledge I found this very helpful.
