I purchased several kits to enhance our science program during Vacation Bible School and the kids loved making the chewing gum. It was a pretty sticky activity but the gum easily washed off their hands and face. We limited the activity to 8 to 11 year-olds and they were very enthusiastic about it. The instructions are easy to follow but I would recommend just allowing the kids to roll and knead the gum in the confectioner's sugar and flavoring and making gum balls. The flavor doesn't last long but the fun is in the making of the gum and understanding where gum comes from not in the end product. We used one kit for 6 to 8 children and that gave them each a nice piece of gum at the end.

Bought this as something to do with my daughter other than playing games and watching TV. She's recently picked up a chewing gum addiction so I figured she'd love this.

Of course when I got it out of the box she was bouncing with excitement.

Some initial comments on it. First DON'T use it in the microwave. Just take the time to do it on the stove, it only took about 10 minutes to heat the chicle to the point where it was workable. Microwaving you run the risk of the tray melting which would leave a horrible mess everywhere. The chicle is extremely sticky until you incorporate the corn syrup. If you get any in the pan the water keeps it from sticking. It's just easier, and the tray wont melt.

Ok, now to the actual review. The little story contained in the kit was interesting, my daughter really learned something from it and can recite the origins of the chicle and the trees it comes from, and as a bonus I got to teach her about the phases of matter from boiling the water as well as melting the chicle.

It is hot so you'll need to do some of the work at first, but once you incorporate the corn syrup and start incorporating the sugar and flavoring its cool enough. She loved getting messy and having some fun rolling and squishing the mixture and putting the flavors in. It was completely doable for a 4 year old. (She just turned 4).

The finished product turned out pretty darn good too. It's sweet enough, the flavors are decent, and the texture is perfect. She absolutely loves chewing it and it made about 30 decent size pieces of gum. I enjoy it too, even though the flavor doesn't last that long it remains sweet and holds it's texture for the hours that I chewed it.

I'd definitely buy it again and she's asking already when we can make some more. That earns 5 stars in my book.

Awesome and fun with cool information about the making of and history of gum. Chewing gum is very sticky, however and tricky to clean, but don't let that put you off. It's good family learn-u-cational fun.

We used this kit and were pleased with the results. The kit contains all the materials you need to make a hefty amount of cinnamon or peppermint gum. Also included is an informative instruction sheet that discusses green issues and the rain forest as well as low-level science explanations.

The written materials, including instructions, are well done. Everything you need is in the kit. You get lots of tasty gum. On the negative side, there is a lot of stirring and kneading of thick material.

My 5 year old daughter and I did this together, and she loved this. Yes, it is a little messy, and no the flavor does not last forever, but that simply is not the point! She beamed with pride at her creation and had everyone try some. It was not that bad at all. :) Mostly, I like toys like this because it is time we spend together, accomplishing something.

I made this with my 6 year old and 8 year old as a homeschool project. It was very easy to make and they had a lot of fun. The gum flavors tasted fine to me and both kids, but the flavor didn't last long and the gum didn't taste too great for too long after. But that is totally fine b/c we didn't expect this to stay flavored as long as a stick of Extra or anything. ;) I mostly just wanted the experience of making our own gum together. So huge hit there! I would definitely recommend and want to try the other "make your own" kits now.

Stale & Caused Allergic Reaction This was a gift from "Santa Clause". My son was REALLY excited to make his new "chewing gum". Like most kids, he loves candy & gum. He had a sleepover and this kit was suppose to be the "highlight" of the night. BUT 4 things happened to turn this event into a nightmare. The instructions are 1. Hard to follow for an adult , more less a kid!! 2. Heating the gum base in either microwave or putting the package in boiling pot .. DO NOT LET KID DO THIS IN MICROWAVE. The instructions said 5 minutes .. More like 15 straight minutes. 3. Mixing the sticky gum base with confectioners sugar & corn syrup is ludacrist. The Flavor bases (peppermint & Cherry) .. Cherry tasted stale & didn't adhere to chewing gum base. You can't knead it "as the instructions say " .. Unless you own a heavy equipment steam roller. Even after the mess ... The taste .. He still wanted to chew it. 4. He SPAT it out in trashcan right away .. Lips started swelling. Started sneezing ... Like 45 times. We rushed him to minor emergency care where he was injected with steroid . DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. So DISSAPOINTED. ID LIKE A REFUND.
