Product Description

This book was written to help teens answer the question, “what should I do with my life?”

Make Your Own Lunch is about deciding to live the exact life you want to live. It’s about having the stuff you want to have, going to the incredible places you want to go, doing the amazing things you want to do and being the awesome person you were meant to be. The book introduces four questions to replace the single question, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" and shows teens how to begin answering them.

This hilariously inspirational book is full of stories from people living epic lives. Teens will also read of Ryan’s adventures living and working in Japan, growing up in a big family in a small town, backpacking through Europe, scuba-diving in Honduras and hanging out in Guatemala, as well as stories from his journey of becoming the most requested youth speaker in Canada.

This review is from: Make Your Own Lunch - How to Live an Epically Epic Life of Epicness (Kindle Edition)
After reading this funny and encouraging book on my Kindle, I ordered 14 copies for my 9th grade Communications Skills students (you have to go to Ryan's website to buy actual books). We read it aloud together, and stopped every couple of chapters to do a little written reflection on some of the topics: an aspect of our lives we would like to change; a decision we made that didn't turn out too well; places we would like to visit; people we would like to know; what we learned and how we could apply it to our lives. They enjoyed reading of Ryan's escapades and what he learned as he made his own decisions about how to proceed with life after high school. This book gave us lots of lively discussion topics. And the kids liked all the food metaphors.

It's not the usual stuff that parents and other adults give to teens about the necessity of rushing to decide what their lives will be like. Instead, it advises us to discover and pursue what we really care about, even if we are told that what we want is impractical, or too difficult, or too expensive. This book will help young people (and adults too) grab hold of their dreams and get busy to accomplish them.

WOWOWOW!!!!

Let me tell you something! I have 7 younger brother and sisters and I am definitely going to take these principles and stories that I've learned from Make Your Own Lunch and apply it into their lives. Seriously, this is an EPIC book, one of the best I've read for teens by far, hands down.

Thank you Ryan for being such an inspiration to all of us who are hungry!

More About the Author

At age 21, Ryan Porter dropped out of college to try to answer the question "what do I want to be when I grow up?". The quest for an answer brought him to Japan, Slovakia, Honduras, Austria, Germany, France, Nicaragua, Guatemala and the Czech Republic. He quickly discovered that there's more than one question to ask as we make decisions about our future and that there are a bunch of answers.

His philosophy is: Teens don't need to have all of the answers by the time they graduate high school, or college for that matter. They must be encouraged to explore the possibilities and get excited about something, anything.

He wrote the book Make Your Own Lunch - How to Live an Epically Epic Life of Epicness to help teens answer that very question that began his journey.

It's not another self-help book for teens. It's a book to show them some of the possibilities for their future and help them get excited about the potential of carving their own path and living epically. It's a guide to help young people figure some of it out.

When he is not backpacking around the globe, he can be found on stages across the continent speaking at youth conferences and high schools.

Ryan is a teen expert and youth speaker who understands exactly how to reach teens and encourage them to take action.
