Make Yourself Sick,
By
This review is from: Make Yourself Sick (Audio CD)
i've been waiting for this cd to come out for a while now and it was well worth the wait. BNO's debut on ferret records is an outstanding sequel to their Broken Bones and Bloody Kisses ep. The lyrics are dark, honest, and beautiful. This one of the best cd's of the year, and your collection would not be complete without it. Checkout their e-card at www.boysnightout.net to listen to the entire cd. The only thing better than listening to the recorded versions of these songs, is listening to the raw intensity of Boys Night Out in concert. You need this cd.

Boys Night Out Debuts at High Performance,
This review is from: Make Yourself Sick (Audio CD)
First of all "A torrid Love Affair" is one of the best written emo/screamo songs of all time. This cd is a great follow up to BB&BK. "I GOt Punched in the Nose" is a great opener with catchy lyrics and guitar. "Hold on Tightly" is another great lyrical song with a electrical sound. "The subleties that make..." is prob one of the most catchy songs on the cd."Anatomy of the Journey" is an amazing song that starts off with dark screaming and goes into detail to explain following the sounds of a bullet to a murder scene. Boys Night Out combines screaming and singing better than any other band Ive heard. Go Pick UP MYS now.

Boys Night Out - Make Yourself Sick,
By Nate Freese (Caldwell, Idaho) - See all my reviews

Boys Night Out pulls off the ever-popular "smooth vocals & screaming" sound with unmatched superiority. That being said, these Canadians don't belt out anything ground breaking; but when front man Conor Lovat-Fraser yelps into his mic, he does so with convincing attitude. This is fun music; and while the lyrical content can seem a tad repetitive, it too has it's novelty. Check out, "The First Time It Shouldn't Taste Like Blood," and "The Fine Art of Making It Out Alive." 3/5

Dark pop-punk screamo hardcore bliss,

Boys Night Out is a band that only comes along every once in a while. They put out music that literally has no flaws. This music can satisfy the ears of so many different people - Boys Night Out mixes screaming hardcore and crazy riffs with a lighter morbid pop punk feel. One song is even techno influenced (#5). The whole sound they create is really unique. If you heard each of the musicians separately on their own, you would be able to recognize that they were from Boys Night Out. The lyrics stand out alot, you don't find writing that good with most of your emo bands today. The production on this CD is a lot better than the production on their EP, but other than that I think they are both about the same quality. The EP was more hardcore-influenced compared to Make Yourself Sick, which took the moody pop-punk alot farther. They pull this blend of styles off so perfectly you'll wish other bands followed suit and created a new genre that sounded like this. Because believe me, they don't sound like any other band. Exceptional vocals, lyrics, guitar, basslines, drumming, and production - if I could I would give this CD a 6 instead of a 5.
1. I Got Punched in the Nose for Sticking My Face in Other People's Business (9/10) - Good way to start off the album, just enough intensity to get you psyched but doesn't deck you out with too much heaviness. 2. (Just Once) Let's Do Something Different (10/10) - Catchy as hell, really good lyrics. One of the best tracks. 3. First Time It Shouldn't Taste Like Blood (10/10) - My personal favorite song. Really nice guitar riffs, some of the best lyrics on the disc, and one of the sickest breakdowns on the disc as well. You will sing along to this one. 4. It's Dylan, You Know the Drill (7/10) - Pretty nice guitar, not the best vocals on this CD. 5. Hold on Tightly, Let Go Lightly (9/10) - Most different song out of the 10. Drum machine provides a nice beat, and makes this song really catchy while it's wistful at the same time. Tracks 6-9 are all 10/10, I believe this is the best section of the CD (other than #3). All are really addictive to listen to and ridiculously catchy. 10. Yeah, No... I Know... (8/10) - A slow paced jam out closer. Repetive lyrics as it fades out (classic of the closing songs). Not one of the best tracks but not one to be overlooked. Boys Night Out is the best thing coming out of Canada since...well damn I guess they are the best thing that has come out of Canada! If you are into emo, hardcore, screamo, pop-punk, or punk, you will like this CD.

Kick ass Canadians,

I bought this album solely on knowing they were from Canada (I'm also from maple syrup capital of the world). From the first time i but this in my cd player i was mystified. Even trying to classify this cd is difficult. I came up with hardcore with a smile. The music almost sounds emoish but the lyrics are as hard killswitch engage and slayer combined. The perfect sound for someone who likes things edgey but not to the extreme. Also the layered singing puts an added touch to the whole cd. There is a fair amount of screaming but this band wouldn't be the same without it. The originality in intense. Track #5 sounds electronically orchestrated with an acoustic guitar to boot. Simply amazing that song is. I can't really say which would be the overall favorite, it really just depends on your mood for the day. I personally love this album. I think it definitely deserves atleast 1 listen. So in conclusion this cd is hardcore but it puts a smile to my face. Oh yeah the last song will get stuck in your head for days.

Boys Are Back in Town!,

When i first heard BNO i didnt see much in them, i wrote them off as another screamo band, but i took a chance on this album and i didnt regret it, it really blew me away it was not as generic as i thought, The album blasts off with "I got punched in the nose..." this song is brilliant the breakdowns are incredible, the band seems to use a lot of metaphors about killing girls which is a little strange but original, the highlights of the album would be song 1,5,7 and 8. i recommend this cd to every hardcore/pop punk fan.

This cd is the best representation of the boys to date. If you liked 'broken bones and bloody kisses' then you'll love 'make yourself sick.' This is definately one of the best cds of the year, and easily holds its own to the bigger releases. I definately recommend this cd to anyone in search of truly rockin' music. Packed full of raw intesity, and real emotion, you'll never be let down... Well thats enough rambling... Just buy the CD, and if you ever have the chance, go see the boys live.. its something everyone should do...TOUR DATES: ww.boysnightout.net |
