Editorial Reviews

Makes No Sense, Terri Allard’s fourth recording on her own Reckless Abandon Music label, was produced by Terri and Bruce Hornsby sideman, Bobby Read. The CD is a collection of Terri's country-folk originals, including Anna Carolyn, written with Mary Chapin Carpenter. Rootsy instrumentation and tight harmonies tastefully support Terri's signature smoky alto on songs about love, hope, good times, and sadness. She rounds out the recording by putting her stamp on Johnny Cash's rockabilly classic, Get Rhythm.

I would recommend this cd for anyone that enjoys folk or country genre. Terri Allard has a special gift for her vocals and guitar as well as her band members contributing talents on the cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars She deserves to be heard, December 15, 2003
This review is from: Makes No Sense (Audio CD)
Terri is a local phenomenon in and around Charlottesville, Virginia. We've seen her perform live many times, and I can tell you that she is well-loved by those who know her music. In fact, my wife and I brought friends to her Christmas show just the other night (Dec. 13, 2003-part of the "Basement Concert Series"), and they are now members of the club! I suggest you seek out her earlier CDs, too, for their heartfelt lyrics, careful attention to production, and Terri's beautiful voice. Also, Gary Green absolutely SMOKES on harmonica, and Sonny Laine contributes to the lovely tone on standup base and backup vocals. Hearing her sing acappella on "Borrowed Time" (from the Loose Change and Spare Parts CD) affected me, and I expect it will move you, too. She does a few rollicking numbers, also (a great cover of Johnny Cash's "Get Rhythm" from her latest CD, Makes No Sense, for example). For lovers of the singer/songwriter and folk/country genres, we are very happy to recommend this music. Check out "A Song for David" (from the Rough Lines CD); in concert, the crowd joins in the chorus: "...and the angels sing." We hope you get the chance to give this angel a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music and writing, September 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Makes No Sense (Audio CD)
What a great CD! There is not a weak song on the record--all are beautifully crafted. Highlight for me is "Bright Day," but that's a tough call--all of the songs are exceptionally written and tap a range of emotions. If you like acoustic music that isn't overdone, you will love this record. A hidden gem of a CD that I can't stop listening to. It's a shame the major labels just don't "get it." Music like Terri's is real and touches everyone. This is my first CD of Terri's, but I'll soon have all of them. Highly recommended!
