SUPER VERSION OF ANOTHER DIRE STRAITS 'CLASSIC'!!!!!,
By Doctor Dan (Bangor, Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Makin Movies (Ogv) [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Side 'A' of this LP is one of the best places to hear the talents of this truly 'world-class' band. 'Tunnel Of Love', 'Romeo And Juliet', and 'Skateaway' in 1-2-3 succession have always seemed to be the strongest 'set'in the Dire Straits catalog (to me),and made this album one of my top-three Dire Straits favorites.'Making Movies' was a turning point as David Knopfler had left the band to pursue a solo career path, and older brother Mark continued on with the original drummer (Pick Withers) and bassist (Bill Illsley). The vacuum left by Dave's departure was filled by seasoned 'session guitarist' Sid McGinnis, and keyboardist Roy Bittan from the E-Street Band. The 'spare' pub-rock band days were obviously over and the future direction for Dire Straits was only going to be upward. Again, Warner Brothers has given us Dire Straits fans a superb vinyl version from the original ANALOG audio master tapes to delight ourselves with. Pressed in Germany on 180 gram 'audiophile-quality' vinyl, the record is FLAT (no warps whatsoever here!) and very, very QUIET, making it hard to believe one's listening to a spinning slab of vinyl plastic instead of sitting in the studio control room listening to the stereo 'master' tape in-person! WOW! Regardless of whatever 'other' LP versions you may have of this recording, you'll NEED to get a couple copies of this release while they are still available in this fast-paced 'digital' world we live in. Record pressing 'runs' are small and usually only done once. Once these are gone, it will be a long, long, time before this sees release again on vinyl records THIS good! My Highest Recommendation and FIVE STARS!!!!!
